Grade My Trade -- Please? (Better Pics!)

Picked this up today for my Dansco Type Set. A little dark, but I liked it better then many of the dipped out Trade $ I've seen. At least this one has character!

  • Changing my grade to VF35, a wee too much wear for XF, jmo.

    I agree with Placid, VF-25 to 30.

Yours looks pretty similar to my old Dansco type coin, gradewise. It was either a high VF or a low-end EF, and it too was dark and undipped. It had lighter rub on the high points and grey over the rest, but the contrast between the colors was not quite as obtrusive as it looks in the scan. I liked it.

It got a VF35 green label at PCI, when I switched to slabs instead of albums. I agreed with the grade. When I later learned my lesson about PCI and other third-tier grading services, I threw it in an NGC crossover submission, just for the heck of it, and was pleasantly surprised when it upgraded. I believe it was the only Carson City coin in my old type set.

a very good looking neat original coin

    a scarce
    in demand
    instantly saleable
    undervalued coin

IMO, the coin is more along the line of Vf-25 at best. Detail is smoothing out from the wear and there is no residual luster.

Lord marcovans 75-cc is dead on what I like to see for an original XF-40! (I would have bought that PCI-35 all day long )
