Help me choose a Worthy Cause for CHARITY AUCTION #2
Howdy,
As I'm getting ready to hold another Charity Auction on the boards, it's time to pick the charities to use- I've decided this year to split, 50/50, the money between the following:
-A Children's Hospital
-Research for a Disease
For now, I'd like to hear your opinions for what charities to consider, especially what Disease should be considered.
Instead of posting, please PM me your ideas (more than one is OK!)- that way, there can also be a "pseudo vote" on what would be a good cause.
I look forward to your suggestions, and feel free to bump this thread whenever it needs bumping. Last time, we raised $1700... let's beat that!

2. A fund for the surviving spouses of our soldiers who died in Iraq.
3. Also a victim's fund for the surviving family members of the Israeli's who were killed by the terrorist vermin homocide bombers.
4. ANA YN fund.
These are generic suggestions, I don't know of the most reputable subcategories of specific charities, perhaps someone else could help with the specifics.
From their web site....
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illnes, disease, or injury.
There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 7,000 families, and have made available more than 1,500,000 days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. Based on a comparison of fees at a Fisher House (the average charge is less than $10 per family per day, with many locations offering rooms at no cost) with commercial lodging facilities in the same area, it is estimated that families have saved nearly $60 million by staying at a Fisher House since the program began.

If you decide on a Children's hospital please consider this one. They are a great organization that helps kids that are very sick.
St Jude Children's Research Hospital
Thanks

I agree with you. The WTC victims have received a lot. I find it crazy that the government was giving out more money to families of CEO's that perished than they were for the "average" victim. People forget about our vets too often. It's easy to blame, it's easy to wake up in the morning, have coffee, go to work, etc. but we would have none of that without those men. Just my opinion, they deserve it.
In the ' about us ' section, it says:
" The Stanley Medical Research Institute (SMRI) is a nonprofit organization that supports research on the causes and treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness), both through work carried out in our own laboratories and through support of researchers worldwide who are working on these diseases. Since 1989, when our research programs began, we have provided over $130 million to make this research possible. "
The mental health field has been seriously under-fund for the last 10 to 15 years through goverment non-support. It`s my two bits along the other good causes pointed out so far. I`m not very familiar with this institute but, maybe something along these lines.

Autism is a terrifying condition and it is the FASTEST growing childhood onset disability in the United States. It's cause is still unknown!!!! More research is needed to just find what is causing it!!!
