What is the nicest complete set on the SGC Registry

Rustywilly got me to wander over to the SGC board to check out the "Way I Collect" concept.

The biggest thing I noticed was that there weren't many sets registered. One of the nicest that I found was this one:

Does anyone know of a nicer "complete" set on their registry that I missed? (I say it in quotes because their registry shows it complete, yet it is missing #136)

Alan

Alan- If you check out that users other sets you will find he has all of the top SGC sets including a complete National Chicle football set. I would guess that he will also be the top bidder on the 51 Bowman Mays SGC 96 in Mastronet's latest auction.

His grades are all over the place, but all in all, a pretty darned nice set. The low number common he is missing is a piece of cake to get.
  • BMW has some killer sets on there. check out his 1937 O Pee Chee set. actually, take a look at the sgc 96 DiMaggio.
  • What's the story with the BMW guy? He has SGC 103, 106 and 108 cards. Perhaps he made a deal with the devil? Seems like a young Mr. Mint in the making. Puts a huge amount of bullcrap up about each of his cards being the finest example in existence in a Rosenesque fashion. Ahh! Evil lives on.

  • While it is not listed on the SGC site, Mastro has a complete 1958 Topps Football set in 88 or better in his auction. That set is a pain and even if the crossing did not go well, I think it would have a great shot at the #1 spot in the PSA race for this year and would blow away the existing sets. Not many SCG sets can say that.

Mastro had a complete set of 1949 Bowman PCL in all SGC 84 - 88 a couple years back that was even nicer than the one I owned (and subsequently sold).

I know I own at least 6 sets in SGC that cannot be beat in PSA, even with every card PSA has graded.
Boy I knew that obscure stuff would pay offf one day.image

  • What's up with the SGC 1959 baseball set? They list 579 cards, not 572. Five of those are the variation cards, but what are the Felt pennants listed at the top of the set. I've collected 1959 Topps for over 10 years and I've never seen them, much less heard of them.

All in all, not much interest over in SGC Registry land, huh? Golly, if something would jump start the demand for SGC cards, my supply would skyrocket in price.image
  • Alan and Aro,

Randy lives in my hometown and he has an amazing collection. He only collects SGC and if he does buy a psa card he has it regraded SGC. His Delongs set is amazing also. Last month he bought a 1950's rookie card that went for about $80,000 on ebay. The link is already gone from ebay or I would post it. Anyways, he's a great guy and has tremendous knowledge or prewar sets.

One of my personal favorites is the 1894 Mayo Cut Plug complete set. It averages out VG/EX and the owner has about half of the cards scanned. To my eye, these are very cool cards (and pretty harshly graded)

There are more than a few really georgous Red Man sets (Mrredman and aconte both have great sets in multiple years)

There is also a very nice, near complete (95%), 1971 Baseball set -- averaging over 88. Everyone knows how tough this set is in PSA-8, but in SGC holders it is brutal...you just don't see these cards around very much.

All in all, it is a much smaller registry than PSA's, but there are some gems.

SRS, I was just going to post about the Football Mayo set. Carl Lamendola has an incredible pre-war football collection, and most of the graded cards are in SGC slabs.
No such details will spoil my plans...

I just picked up a couple of these.
Gotta love those serious looking Ivy Leaguers.

    Toppsgun:

The 1959 Felt Pennats were a scarce insert and advertising piece that were included in certain 1959 unopened. They are relatively uncollected (not too many people have heard about them -- and even less seem to actually care), but they do seem to be tremendously scarce in the current marketplace, even moreso than some of the previous Bazooka advertising inserts, etc.

There is actually one of these inserts currently included in the Mastro auctions. Though they do not show a picture of the actual insert -- they do describe it as being included in what can only be described as a "Master" set.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
