I'm receiving "spoof" emails every other day! Anyone else??

Hi all,
I'm receiving spoof emails for ebay and now paypal. Are any of you seeing an incresed amount of this?
I just called paypal. Send them to spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com... I've received 3 for ebay and one for paypal since Saturday.

I know qmayer's paypal account was hacked last week. I also know most people on this forum are aware of the problem. I'm wondering if this is getting worse as of late.

I've had a paypal account for about 3.5 years, never a problem. I'm starting to get a bit nervous so I'm changing my password every time I receive a spoof, or at least once a month.

  • I get several a week from Paypal and ebay scammers. I just delete this crap and go directly to the sites to see if everythings alright. Just keep in mind that neither Paypal nor ebay will send these type of messages out. What ever you do DO NOT RESPOND to them! Don't even open up the email, just delete it.

  • I've been getting at least one a day from either paypal, ebay or Yahoo. I delete most without even opening them. I used to send them to ebay, etc, but it just takes too much time now.

I too! get them on a regular basis and Always foward them to spoof@eBay.com, If enough of us do this, they will shut down these goofs that are trying to rip us off. I would love to see the guys do some jail time, and not just a slap on the wrist. This is fraud in the biggest sense...jay
  • I guess that I have been lucky, I have not received one for over a month. I have gotten several in the past from eBay, but none from Yahoo or PayPal.

Hotmail account is getting 2-3 per day for the last week or so.
  • Yeah, I've been getting 1 or 2 a day as well for ebay. I've never received them for Paypal or Yahoo, though. For what it's worth (possibly nothing), I forward a copy of every one to spoof@ebay.com. I don't know if it helps, but it can't hurt.

I do header traces on the spoof emails I receive. It's amazing how many of them go back to servers in Russia. image

  • me too.
I used my email as my id for years and got
TONS of spam, but since I changed to my
new userid, it has nearly stopped.

it took a few weeks but it really helped.

  • It'll catch up to you soon. I changed my ID from my e-mail address over 4 years ago and I still get this stuff every day.
