I've seen PSA 9's go under the radar in the past and went cheap. I thought about buying them because they are near impossible to get high grade. But then I thought about the quantity of them still out there and figured that may not be a good long term investment. I'm more into buying and dumping, not really collecting. I would still try to snatch a 10 if it goes cheap, even a common, but I don't think any would ever go cheap.

The radar was out on this one. I was really suprised it went above 25.00 and in shock at 35.00 but 35.00 was my limit. I will still pay 100.00 for a PSA 10 !

  • As rare as these cards are in mint condition, there is still a mountain of cards out there. 99% of them have never been graded. Long term, a psa 9 boggs won't be worth more than the grading fee + maybe a dollar or two, IMO.
  • The '86 issue is an interesting one. I went through a vending case recently, and got about 10 cards total from the case worth grading. With all the Rose subset cards, I figured it was worth it (and it was within reason). But getting 9s and 10s from the set are pretty darn tough, and I tend to think that will continue being the case as more cases get cracked. The top black border is a killer, and the paper stock simply sucks. On the other hand, since there are no major rookies in the set (despite stockpiling Vince Coleman rookies as a kid), it's dirt cheap to buy unopened material, so the chase is fun ...

A year ago I cracked a 6 box rack case and found ONE black bordered star to send in (a Ryan which graded 9). Even with the mountain of this stuff out there, it will probably be more of a trickle of cards to Ebay than any rush (and probably even less of a trickle now that you need a membership).

I am going to buy a rack case very soon just to see for myself. I think 9's will hold value well. Unless there is a rush of them I have brought up this subject befor and it is the toughest set of the 80's. I am willing to bet the hardest set to recieve a PSA 9 in the last 20 to 25 years. I own about 500 or so maybe a few less. I sent in one and of course recieved an 8. I looked thru them again and found nothing worth submitting. I think I can spot a 9 pretty good btw . I think the next few 9's will still be strong. Time will see I see this set gaining popularity very soon. I dont forsee the pop report exploiding with 9's and especialy 10's any time soon . Off hand the pop report is about 900 graded 10 / PSA 10's

  • So rack boxes are the best to bust on this product? What about vending, not as sharp corners?

As you guys bust this stuff please keep me in mind for a Yount. I just went through 500 and sent 3 in and got two 8s and a 7. Also got an 8 on the Henderson out of 200+ count. On the other hand I did get a 1/1 Rose subset card in a 10.
