My Ike Proof Registry Set

Ok, I finally succumbed... I'm a plastic sucking numbers junkie registry fiend!

My Ike Proof Registry

If you have a coin to sell that fills one of the holes in my set, please let me know. I also have some "duplicate" toned coins from other years if you're interested in a trade.

I'm only in 96th place, but if I fill those holes, whoever's in 93rd ain't gonna be happy! Yeeehaaa!

Hey did you use html in your Set description?

  • That is a great set! Thanks so much for posting those photos. It seems like the last one doesn't fit so perfectly as it isn't toned as wildly as the others. I think there should be bonus points for super color!

Beautiful set. Thank you for putting up the images. Though in 96th, probably worth a multiple of the #1 set.

  • You can now see a number one set can be built without neccessarily numerically being number one. The 74 would be so much more desireable than a true 70DC even without haze. Kinda makes you wonder about all the number chasing, huh

Hey super coin can you tell me what kind a photograhy setup you are using to take photos of your coins?
  • Thankee, thankee... image

gcoin the photo setup is a Hi8 camcorder with a close-up lens, white balance adjustment, and a black tagboard shield to minimize reflections in proof coins.

The camera is on a homemade stand pointing straight down. I use a single small spotlight at about a 45 degree angle with an adjustable aluminum backdrop on the opposite side.

The camera is attached to a Macintosh with a digitizing board. The principle advantage of this setup is a live video feed onscreen when adjusting lighting, which is especially helpful when trying to accurately capture color or cameo. The disadvantage is that it's only 640x480 resolution but that's enough for my needs if I zoom in on the coin first.

The Mac is running custom software I wrote to quickly capture, crop, resize, compress, label and save the JPG photos. It's controlled via a barcode scanner for "hands off" operation.

But... any decent digital camera with close-up capability will produce similar/better results though not as quickly. Mostly it's just messing with lighting and other details. Try to find a camera with a manual white balance or you may have to adjust color after the fact in software.

    Really nice, Supercoin! Beautiful coins.

You are approaching your Ike registry the same way I am my Carver set. Beautiful coins--maybe not the highest technical grades.

More power to ya. It's a gorgeous set.

  • Thanks Clank! Good luck on your set too.

By the way, here are the specific dates I would like to find in Peacock hoard coins if anyone has some... (I already have a 1977-S, I just put a different one in the registry set for variety):

    1974-S Clad
    1976-S Clad Type 1
    1976-S Clad Type 2
    1978-S

Thanks supercoin for the great info. I will have to give it a try in a similar setup.
