Question from a Registry newbie...

How does PCGS decide what series and sets become "PCGS Registry Sets", and do collectors have an influence?

As an example, say I wanted to complete a set of New Orleans No Motto Half Eagles. (Am I even allowed to talk about them on these boards?) What process is involved in making these coins part of the Registry?

Yes there is collector influence. I have seen sets that seem to have been made for only one person, so there is hope. If Eliasberg had a set of "New Orleans No Motto Half Eagles" (which I am sure he did), it would help as they want to create all of the Eliasberg sets (other famous collectors too)

I'd mention it to BJ, and also start pestering David on the Q & A forum. David Hall stated that he would like to see the Registry become much bigger than it is already. I'm pretty sure they will be introducing new sets this fall.

  • Each time someone suggests a new set, David Hall seems to agree and says that they will put it on their queue. I think they have a lot of sets planned, and are willing to add more. I suggest putting your ideas in a post to David on the Q&A Forum.
