To registar or not to registar....

...that is the question.

I have my BN cents in the registry. I do have many of the post 1929 cents in RD. I origionally decided to put the BN PCGS portion of my set in the registary to attract the occasional random seller that might have something I'd want. Well, I havent been contacted yet. My % red is a big fat ZERO. My thoughts there were that if there were a random seller with a bn coin, they'd go looking for people that had a less than 100% red set. Then I got to thinking... man, I'm on down in the rankings, like 64 or so. Do you think it would be more visable to people with the RD coins in it (increases rank), or without (keeps %RD at zero)?

  • I wouldn't be using your registry set to try and get random sellers. Put what
you like in it, and occasionally put a wanted to buy note up on the BST board.

    Rob,

Thanks for the advice. Rank to me means nothing. If I thought I could get into the top 5 I'd be all over it. Heck, if I thought I could brake the top ten, I'd be into it. I'm not trying to detract from the top collector's accomplishments. I have a GREAT deal of respect for what they've been able to do. It's just that my personal rank is inconsequential to me.

At one time I had my full set registared. At it's peak, I was at #15. I sold that set about a year ago, though. I paid the truck off :-D and started over. My goal is to build a really nice well matched set, reguardless of the holders. Now I have a bunch of NGC coins to go with my PCGS ones. Since I couldnt put my NGC coins in, I decided to just not registar the set. Then I got to thinking about it. Every once in a while, when I had the registry, I'd get offers on coins that would improve my set. So I decided to go ahead and registar the PCGS browns. It's not that I was expecting these offers to roll in. One or two a year would be pretty good, I think. But it was the point that it would put me out there as a BN cent collector and wouldnt cost me one thin cent.

Well, now it's sitting out there. I have a lot of the RD's after 1930. ...might as well go ahead and registar them. I did want to see what other's thought about it, though.
