Invoice finally done

I gave PSA some cards to be graded on Thursday of the Nationals. The cards I picked up were nice cards and overall I did do okay. I thought I would have had a few more PSa 8 1962 Topps cards, but the one I was really shocked at was the 1956 Roebuck. I thought it was a shoe in for a PSA 8 with an outside shot at a PSA 9.
Check it out for all that likes to do this.

    1954-

What types of prices did you pay for them raw? Did you get them at good price or where they priced with the knowledge that they could be 8's.

  • It's been my experience to NEVER expect good grades when mixing vintage years on the same invoice. Especially so, when I just tack on a single card to round out the submission. I can think of no time (nary, not a one) when I got the positive surprise. The graders must need something to compare the card(s) to from the same year, is all I can come up with.

Not a bad group of 8's though. Congratulations!

    Toppsgun,

I think it's all in your head, but I will agree - it's in my head as well. I submitted 50 or so cards about a year ago, most from the 1970 Topps Baseball set plus 3 cards from other sets. I received mostly PSA 8's with a few 9's and a few 7's on the 1970 cards (pretty much what I figured they would grade) while my others were hammered - nothing higher than a PSA 7. I thought I had looked over all of the cards pretty well and hadn't missed anything - I never could figure out why the 3 other cards graded lower. I just figured that I didn't know the sets as well as I knew the 1970 set. Oh well. image

    Basiline-
I was picking up some cards for Steve Eberhardt for his 1962 topps set and ran across some that I thought looked like a PSA 8 for myself. I usually don't send in a mix of years, however these were ones that I picked up at the Nationals and just wanted to drop them off.

It's obvious that you are totally clueless.
better just sell out to me and leave the hobby.
don't forget to write a farewell speech.

  • 1954,
Not that I've looked at that many invoices online, but it drove me nuts that the cards weren't in order. I exported them into a spreadsheet and reordered just to get a sense.

In my opinion, this is a pretty good haul. You don't collect this year? Well, you've picked a couple of nice cards to try to get graded. #287 George Witt only has Pop 1 PSA 8 or higher. It's a shame yours came in at 6, (there's not that many in 7 either). That card would have paid off. I don't know if it happens in other years, but some of the 62's are made even more difficult if the picture has any amount of darkness or black in the background. These cards are extremely tough to get in PSA 8 because of the print snow that marrs (sp?) the card. Same can be said for some of the other cards too. The best card is Gene Stephens which if I read my pop report correctly, is Pop 5 in PSA 8 or better. I remember seeing a card of Ruben Amaro which has Pop 4 in 8 go for upwards of $120 (or 190 I can't remember which). The background is almost pitch black.

What are you going to do with these cards if you don't mind my asking? Also, I'm also curious how much you paid for them. I recently sent in about 16 cards I purchased at a show (specifically for grading) but paid pretty close to full Beckett High (about 80% of that number actually). 62's are not easy or cheap cards.
Call me crazy, but I collect 62 Topps BB.
