Production Runs - For Grading Purposes

I've been buying some vintage unopened packs of cards to have graded. There are alot of cards that are cut badly and can't be submitted. I was just wondering how many cards are run through a production run. Did they reset the cuts after each run? Is it best to purchase wax packs, vending boxes or cases of unsearched cards to get the most bang for your buck?

Thanks,

Dale

I think it all depends. I have pulled nice cards out of vintage vending, wax and rack. Though it has recently started to get really expensive, I enjoyed in the past buying late 70s vending boxes. I have had pretty good luck out of them though I have also had some with bad quality. It all depends. In any event, with pack prices of modern baseball skyrocketing with little value in the packs (unless you pull the in the moment super duper game used card), if I am going to "gamble" with unopened I will take my chances with vintage. It is more fun too!
  • I guess the other question then is if there are numbers on pack boxes that can determine the production run (i.e., certain numbers for production run 1, certain numbers for production run 2, etc).
