Merc folks...how about this coin.

Was it worth bidding on and winning ? A little White but oh well. This is one of nine Mercs won last night. Just cannot help myself. image

  • Those look like super coins with strong strikes! I like them both very much.

9 coins in one night! You are on a buying spree. I hope they all look like as nice as those two.

    Ken,

More beautiful ladies!! What are the grades on those, it is hard for me to judge as the picture is just a bit fuzzy on my computer.

Nice '19-D, Ken! The bands look really good for that date/mint.

    A couple (OK, three) questions:

    1. Are the 2 coins you showed us slabbed?
    2. If so, what grades are they?
    3. Why didn't I see the '19-D, so I could bid on it? It would make a good mate for the '19-S that I expect to have in another day or two.

Sounds like you really went on a binge. Whose auction(s) were they in? Guess you were like me - frustrated that I couldn't get to the ANA, but looking to buy a decent coin or two (or 9!) elsewhere.

If you decide you don't need or want 2 '19-D's, I know where you could find a home for one. image

    Al,

You always manage to stay one step ahead of me. Congrats on your latest acquisitions from Ken's favorite year. With those pedigrees, I'll bet they're both real screamers in person.

Man look at the Pops of those 1925 dates ! What a great year for tough mercs. The 25S even has a lower population that the common 25P, common since when, and the rare 25D. Nice additions AL. image

On to the meager coins I bought. You will not believe the grades of these two shown so I will wait untill they are received, take a look at them and then make a comment. Actually six of the dimes bought were ANACS coins, in which I have had good luck with plus they are usually much cheaper money wise. I really want to see these two shown because they sure look better than the grades put on them. The three pcgs coins bought were a straight across swap for a coin I am not thrilled with my 39P and a meager up grade on the 36S that is in my set. All bought from the Junk Coin, as some call it, Heritage Bullet Auction.

I bought the 19D because of the strike. Grade wise I know what the slab says but thats about it untill it is seen. Hows that for Dodging the grade question. image I will say on the 25P that Heritage did say it looked real nice for the grade. Bought it for the strike also. Even if it is real nice I would have a rough time letting my toned 25P go Bye Bye.

Heck this one was in the batch also. See below.

    Al,

I was the underbidder on your 25-D , I really had my heart set on that example - its totally super - You really got yourself a great addition image

When I get all my Mercs in that I corraled last week there may be some crying here image , Ken I won 3 Mercs last nite too - I coulda sworn I thought I'd be outbid or something - something like bid for the heck of it I'll probably not get it anyways kind of thought - so I am surprised, and I assume they are as nice as your new buys.

THAT'S ONE HECK OF BATCHimage. You did well old buddy.

Marc, were you live bidding,or internet?..I took a big chance on not seeing the coin in person,as it turned out ,im pleased..I would like to know, who outbid me on the 21-D?That coin looked to be superb.Al

    Al,

...if your referring to Heritage I was internet bidding, and the 21-D FB went for way over what I had in mind to pay but I did pick up the 21-D NB which IMHO is a super example and equally rare - besides my sources say its damn close to FSB so I'm totally cool with it image

Marc a couple that were really wanted last night went for a little more money than I was willing to pay. Got home early yesterday and watched and bid on coins for about 4 hours. Someone just kept out bidding me on a couple of the coins.

Yes I was a little suprised to get all of the ones I got also. Toward the end it seemed like no one was bidding.

    Ken, I think the 19-D and the 25-P are both MS62FB, the 19-P MS63

Al, wow, two nice additions, especially the 25-D. Guess my headlights are getting kinda dim now?

Marc, hope I'm not one of the one's crying! Finally slid into the top 10 with Stokley and Dennis dropping out. May not be here long though.

Tim, why not put together a set of Walking Liberty Halves before you start on that second set, give some of us a chance at those tough dates?
