House bought. Cards sold!

Just thought I'd chime in.

I've been able to work and deal with many of you in the past and wanted to let you know that my wife and I have finally (after 3 months of searching) found a home to buy!

I've had to sell quite a bit of my collection, including my beloved 1973 '53 Topps Reprints PSA Registry #1 set (I miss seeing my name in the SMR guide every month now!) as well as my near set of PSA 8 1950 Bowman Football cards and a bunch of other PSA 9 vintage cards. Thanks to those of you who helped in my liquidation process (special thanks to Chris Porter for taking the last few off my hands).

I'm relegated to watching from the sidelines now as I only have my PSA 5 set of 1950 Bowman baseball cards and a few rare T206s.

It'll be interesting to see how the PSA Ticket market does (I'm upset I sold my 3000th hit ticket of Rose's) but I still have most of the other modern ones.

I'm letting my membership to PSA run out (this month) - but I thought I'd chime in one last time before I head down the path of first time home ownership.

Good luck to all!
Andy

PS. It was heart warming to read all the posts to Carlos. When we get through the escrow process, I'll have to remember to make a donation!

  • Buying a home for your family is more important than owning card right now, it was a wise move. You can always get that set again in the near future. I know the feeling, I recently sold off my T206 set, even thought I was only ranked 6th and had 157 PSA cards, having being forced to sell them because my Son Jeffrey being born. Just so that I could get him all the necessities he needs. That was more important to me than the cards. I know, I'm still young and if I wanted to I'll probley start that Monster set again, I know I still can. So just be happy that, a place to sleep with a roof over your head is a great investment. Besides you can see your cards again, in someone elses collection. image

I too, know how you feel. I sold off the #3 1951 Bowman set of all time for home improvements and a new vehicle. Now I am left to "slum" it with the 1975 Topps collectors. I think that I should re-think my priorities.

    Andy,

Congratulations on your new home.Good Luck!!

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
  • Vargha,

Funny you should mention the 51 Bowman set. I was just surfing the registry today and noticed that set in the all-time list, but not the active list. And was wondering if you sold it or just retired it. Once you decide to sell a set of that magnitude, where did it go? Auction House? Sold individually or as a group?

    A&J,

Proud to be the new owner of the 53 Reprints. And I've already updated 2 cards. Did you also notice PSA weighted the set now?

    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Nice going Anj!

Once you get settled and buy furniture, you should mention that a "REALLY NICE" card cabinet would look great in the living room. Then, once you have the cabinet - you'll have to fill it!

    (slick plan, huh?)

Bruce, I'm sure that David will be up here shortly to talk about his 51 set. But, the bottom line is that he sold it in pieces and used the money to buy a villa on the beach in Tahiti. He logs on through his satellite phone and converses with we the riff-raff on the Forum when he has a chance!

Frank -- the villa was supposed to be just between you and me. Now the IRS will be all over me!

Bruce -- The set was sold primarily as individual cards to a number of collectors, including John Branca, Charlie Merkel, Jim Crandell, Ron Hobbs and others on the Set Registry. I also sold some to dealers who had private buyers with wantlists that needed to be filled. The 5 cent box and 1 cent wrapper just closed at auction with Superior. All I have left is is three first series cards in VG/EX to EX condition that all have the wrong backs on them. It was a fantastic run and I met alot of great people building the set. I'll probably never own a set that nice again.
