I have violated the first rule of coin buying-don't buy from an antique store. There's a good one nearby I stop at occasionally to look at old books. They had some coins-specifically an 1875 20 cents piece, nice gray toning, even wear, probably in fine, with a shadow next to the cap. I didn't have my loup (or my glasses) but at $59 I made a snap decision to purchase. When I got home the shadow was a shallow gouge-I almost cried. However, that sucker is mounted above my desk, where I can look at it daily and remind myself-do not buy from antiquers! (not their fault, mine)

We learn by our mistakes. Always carry a loop no matter where you go.

I bought an 09-S vdb from an antique store about six months ago for $50. It slabbed PCGS MS66RD.

Well at least it was an inexpensive lesson, not a mistake. If we didn't make mistakes in life we wouldn't know any better, nothing to learn from. Life is all trial and error until one day you actually get it right, then you die. Sucks doesn't it? LOL jk
