NOTE: Without realising it until after it was done, I just graded a Morgan dollar the minute I removed it from the flip. It only took one second or less with my naked eye. The Grade (MS-63) did not change when I confirmed it with a hand lens. I did not put it under my scope. I believe this is a common occurrence for many experienced dealers/graders/collectors. Especially the young, nearsighted folks grading Silver Eagles w/o magnification.
Therefore, I'm fairly certain that it takes less time to grade many coins than getting ready to grade it, entering it, and putting it away with coins that are commonly seen or you are familiar with.
So, how long does it take to grade a coin? For most coins, between one and ten seconds - average 4-5 sec.(?) for coins of all types. For me, circulated coins take longer than MS.
Just for fun, pick up any coin; then count one thousand one, one thousand two... That will give you an idea of how loog even five seconds is!
Oops! Another Morgan took a lot more time/thought and I needed a glass. Probably closer to seven or eight seconds.
This is one of those cases where the grader has to determine how much the hairlines; rub; and minor partial, peripheral gold toning affect a scruffy, semi-PL POS. I'm glad I'm not the finalizer. That's a tough job.

What is more telling is how many coins a professional grader typically has to evaluate in one workday. That's enough to make one cross-eyed.
