Photographing gold coins.

My pictures of gold always give the coins a funny color not like they look in reality.
Anyone else have this happen or any suggestions on how to get a more true picture?

I use a g.e. reveal bulb single light and a sony digital camera. Does pretty well with silver coins but not gold.

    Placid,

I find that I have to run the images through a photo editor like Photoshop to get it right. In general, I find that a cold light will be the hardest to deal with because it looks blue. A warmer light is better because it looks red, which is more like the color of a gold coin.

What kind of light is "warm"?

Try using white light... I used Reveal and loved what I got with toned stuff, but then I just used some white light... strong light closeby will be great for any color coin...

Also, make sure your white balance is on incandescent, and there is no other light in the room (I shoot pitch black, except for my two coin lights).
