GAI Pack

Got my first GAI graded pack from an auction today. Kinda disappointed....1960 Topps FB Cello pack graded 6.5....top 6 cards have a big dent in their sides. Would expect a PSA 2 or 3 if graded. In addition, the plastic covering the pack is really thin and provides little protection. C'mon PSA, start grading packs!

if the grade is that wrong call steve rocchi and tell him, also remember they are not grading the cards but the pack. In your case it is misgraded if the cards are damaged.

as far as the holder, I have to disagree, I think the holder is great. It's a soft holder so it makes it easier to cut out if you want to open it. unless you drop something on it, the pack is well protected. I don't think you can drop something on any holder without damaging the goods.

This is a cello pack, so it's easy to see that the cards are damaged [gash is one inch long!]. Their grading system changes weekly however, so if they're just grading the cello, 6.5 is correct [there's some yellowing and tears of the cello on the back]. I disagree about the protection factor: if you put a piece of paper over the slab and write something with a ballpoint pen, the GAI pack will likely be damaged. That would never happen with a PSA holder! In fact, the plastic is so thin that maybe the gash ocurred after grading.

all card holders are hard holders. packs are different, I wouldn't want to have to "crack" out my pack to open it and mess it up with a screw driver. why would tou be writing on the top of your pack ? the plastic is thin on top but the edges and corners are sturdy and provide prosection . I think there was another thread way back where the was also a debate about hard and soft. And points were made on both sides. yes the grading system sucks, I would want a 4 grade system at most but that probably would not be as profitable for the company.

if there is a 1 inch gash that affects most of the cards send it to them and they will buy it back as the pack is misgraded.
