Board Members with a booth at the National

I thought it would be image for any dealers that are participating in the national to post their booth numbers here(or where you will be hanging out) so that people can stop by.(no blackjack or craps table numbers).I have seen two or three dealers spam image their locations on the boards already. This would kind of make spamming legal, wouldn't it ?It would also give everyone a collective list that we could print.

Thanks,
Vic
Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.

Vic, it doesn't take much to encourage me to spam my booth location on the Registry Boards! I enjoy having Registry members stop by at any show. Please introduce yourself. It's always fun to match up names and faces. I'll be at Booth 790. I expect this to be a monster show in terms of attendance since it is the first East Coast show in a long time and I am really looking forward to it.

How bout next year....the board members all chip in and get our own booth! A place where we can all meet and explain the registry to people, BS with each other, trade cards, sell our PSA 7's, etc.

    John,

    Cool idea!!

Aren't there certain qualifications to get a table at the national, and how many people can get a dealers badge from the same table?

Not sure...maybe PSA can pull a few strings for the guys who contribute money. I know they server alchohol at the National (as Ive been to the last two in Cleveland)....could you imagine Zardoz mixing drinks at the table!!

Or how about this....in the next year we put a book together called "Secrets of the Set Registry" with our collecting tips and sell em at the table. The proceeds can go to fund our addiction..err...purchases that week.

With respect to obtaining tables at the National, (disregarding getting them from sponsors, corporations etc) they are distributed on a seniority system. A point is awarded for each National you do and, during the current National, a booth lottery will be held for the National next year in Cleveland. Those with the highest point totals pick their booths for next year in the first lottery sessions. Those with the lower numbers select last. There seems to be a move by the National Board to limit booths (and have slightly smaller shows) as I know last year in Chicago it was dicey as to whether anyone with a priority under 3 got in. I am not sure about Atlantic City and how tough it was for those with low priority to get in.

It costs $765 to get a standard 10X10 booth and $965 for a 10X15. I've already paid for the Cleveland national in 2004 as you must submit what is called a Notice of Intent to Exhibit and at least partially pay for next year's National before this years is even held. If you don't have any priority, you must apply for admission and generally get on a wait list and hope for a cancellation.

I hope this gives you at least some idea of what is involved just to get in to this show.

In Cleveland 2 years ago...I know several private collectors that had no problem getting tables...(the location wasnt the greatest) but they did get them.

This sucks. Only 366 days until I get to go to my first Nationalimage

Cleveland was my first National I set up at and Chicago was my second. Both sucked and not worth the expenses. But it was fun though. I had no problem getting into either one. I think it's funny that the National lowered the amount of tables and dramatically raised to price per table recently. I think it kills their ego to not have a waiting list for their show. For years, people were dying to get into that show and now people do it once and never come back to set up again. You guys would have more fun on the buyer side of the table. Dealer side requires a lot of sitting around. I have to say though that you can pick up some monster deals when you buy from the dealer side. Problem with that though is you are being offered everything that 50 other dealers already said no to. So your not being offered any great vintage but a lot of stuff you can make money on.

This will be my 1st National I will be attending (3rd overall) since 1988. I am interested in seeing how far its grown since then, the hobby/business has had many ups & downs since '88. The last 2 Nat'ls I went to had virtually No corporate booths if any. A few years ago, several dealers commented that before too long it would just be a show of the corporate sponsors and the card dealer will be getting squeezed, glad thats not the case. And I'm glad our National hasn't turned into a Fan Fest...jay

Jay, one thing for sure is that you will have plenty more walking room in todays Nationals than in 1988. The card market was full steam ahead back then. The only really frenzy time at Nationals nowadays is when the doors open on Thursday to the general public. And that's hardly a frenzy compared to 1988 standards.

Steve - I hope your right, as I hate an overcrowded show and getting goosed while leaning over looking at cards. If I was set up then the more the merrier, but going as a collector, gimme lots of roomimage ...jay

    Jay,

If I had to get goosed, then looking at cards and having that happen would be very close to the top of my list image

VIC - That all depends who is doing the goosing. And considering that I do not see too many beautiful women wandering the aisles, the gooser will probably be a fat sweaty bald guy, so I sure do not want to be the goose-ieimage ...jay

Well...so far I only see 1 table holder that has stepped foward:

    Joe, at Setbuilders........Booth 790.

Am I to assume that there aren't any more board members that also have a table at the National???

Looks like I only know of a single table that is "Registry Friendly" so far. I'll stop there first!

    (Now Joe...you are bringing a ton of Kellogg's cards aren't you???...Hmmmmm...)

Did I mention that I'm stopping by #790?????...........

  • Not sure if I qualify as a "member" of the board as I rarely post (though I do read it every day) but I'll be in booth #992. If you want to see Cuban cards of Negro League players, I'm certain you will never see as many at any show as you will at this booth.

    King Kellogg:

I feel like the Soup Nazi: "No Kelloggs for you!". However, stop by anyway. It is not often that I get to meet royalty.

I'd hate to have all of that cash you have been saving for this show go to waste though. I think it's time for you to expand your repertoire. Can I interest you in some tasty 67's? We have fresh 59's and 56's this week and some newly picked '72 high numbers! Did I mention I'm at Booth 790? Please Larry, stop bye and say hi.
