Wow!!! PCGS in the month of June graded over...

...140,000 coins. That has to be some record. The figure was from a cs rep I talked to on Friday, when I was checking on some grades. I remember about 4 years ago, when I starting using PCGS, they were grading around 40 or 50 thousand coins, and they were fairly pleased with those numbers. And if I remember correctly post 1950 bulk was responsible for about 40% of that number.

I would really like to know the breakdowns of the following comparables...

Bulk vs. non-bulk (including pre-1930, 1930-1964, 1965-1978 and the ultra modern 1980s-present breakdowns for bulk)

Economy vs. Regular vs. Express vs. Modern etc. (including including pre-1930, 1930-1964, 1965-1978 and the ultra modern 1980s-present breakdowns)

US coins vs. World

Breakdown of the number of coins graded for each series

Submissions on dealer numbers vs. collector club numbers

And even a comparable that is probably not tabulated...

Toned vs. White

Maybe Carol or BJ can shed some light...but before that I would love to hear some estimations from the members here.

What other comparables would be interesting?

    wow wild!

    let me guess
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm over 70% graded in june 2003 were post 1950 coins

    sincerely michael
  • I wonder how they could do this without increasing their staff by a factor of at least 2? Did all of the graders work double time? I think not!!!!!!! This is a mystery I tell you. I ecpect the report around 90,000 and smooth out July. Otherwise I would have to question how it was done.

It appears, since the posted turnaround times haven't increased in the last month, that things are running a little smoother at PCGS. I left a question about such in the Q&A.

Crossovers versus raw? and for crossovers DNC percentage.
PCGS upgrade submissions and percentage that upgrade.

  • wow, a topic line that contains 'PCGS' 'over' 'graded' all in one line. i didn't think that was possible nowadays image

Guess the high number of coins graded this month explains why my regular 15 day service is not complete, even after 15 days. Guess I have a refund coming. I just hope the grades are what I'm looking for.

How much more delayed will modern coins be???

What's the turn around time for moodern? I have some that arrived on 7/2, but don;t expect them back for 3-4 weeks.

According to a thread posted in the US Coin forum, moderns are now at 35 days.

35 days, 35 months, what's the diff? Still way too long for a company that sent out letters about how they were going to improve customer service!!
And I ain't lying this time.
