Scam Seller On 1975 Topps.

1975 Topps Robin Yount Rc #223 PSA MINT 9!!!!

I sent him the following e-mail:

According to the PSA Certification Database, certification number 01532927 is defined as the following:

CARD INFORMATION
Year: 1975
Brand: TOPPS
Player: ROBIN YOUNT
Variety: N/A
Grade: 9OC

Either you are ignorant as to qualifiers (which I doubt) or you are scamming people by not posting a scan or mentioning the qualifier. Additionally, 60/40 is not "OC". Pull the auction and don't try to rip people off.

I am going on vacation tomorrow, so if someone wants to follow-up with eBay, it would be appreciated.

    My question to seller:

"What's the measurement on centering top to bottom centering? Please include it in your description or include a scan. Preferably adding the 'OC' qualifier in your description would be ideal. You may fool the buyer but then you can expect a negative feedback when they see that they have just bought a $50 card instead of a $400 card."

    Hope the item is pulled.

Why do I enjoy emailing scam sellers so much? I must be a distant cousin three times removed from Columbo.

It would be pretty cool if he got 200 Emails...jay

He added the OC to the auction as of now and he thanks you for the e-mails as well.

Man, that's easily overlooked. I knew it was there and had to search for it. I hope he notified the 3 current bidders as well (if someone here hasn't already). Keep an eye on this one for 3 bid retractions.

He emailed me back and stated he didn't add the OC because he felt in his opinion that it was not off center.

JEB - theres no need for bidders to retract their bids since the reserve wasn't met. If any had higher snipes set in, they can adjust that without anyone knowing...jay

I also emailed the 3 bidders. One of them has responded with thanks.

I think the first bidder is a member of this board. (yawie99)

I see now that there is also a 4th bidder...

LOL! If his opinion is so much better respected in the hobby than PSA, why doesn't he just crack it out of the holder and call it a 'rich-jen 9'? Then we can all flock to the auction and buy this nicely centered mint card.

My Email asked if there were any qualifiers on the card since there was no scan included.
His response was quick & courteous.

    Jay,

Sorry, I didn't notice the reserve when I looked at the auction again. Also didn't notice how low the high bid was. I guess a bid retraction isn't warranted yet - I just remembered the $400 BIN.

It's now at $34. I don't know that it's worth any more than this without seeing a scan. I think the seller is doing himself a disservice. If the card is that close to borderline OC, he could crack it out and resubmit, or at least post a large, high resolution scan to let potential bidders make that decision for themselves.

The bid is up to $165.50 now...

That auction came up when it first started on one of my searches and my heart almost skipped a beat when I saw the $400 buy it now. I raced to check the cert number in hopes of hitting the buy it now before anybody else did only to be able to exhale again realizing that it wasn't what it said to be. I emailed him also at the time. Apparently everyone else on this board found the auction too. That guy must have gotten bombarded by emails.

I can't believe that this guy just relisted the Yount with no mention of it being a 9oc when he must have gotten 50 emails from the last auction stating the discrepancy. This has turned from possibly an honest mistake to really trying to rip somebody off. The funny thing is that he uses this in his auction description:

"Since this is a serious auction, I'd ask for serious bidders only!"

How about we start with a serious seller first. Ebay should get involved in this. Some unsuspecting card collecting novice will get burned on this and the end result will be one less card collector in the world.
  • Ebay should get involved in this.

Like that's going to happen. I just got this top-secret photo of the eBay executive officers debating the issue of keyword spamming and the stealing of scans:
