Thanks guys! That makes 4 of them I have found in the past 4 years. 1 1979 (the second ms68 came from one of the rolls I had owned), 2 1977 and 1 1976. Let's compare 2 groups: Post 1982 and pre 2000 coins in ms 69 I have made: (1) 1984, (2) 1992, (2) 1992-D, (1) 1993, (3) 1993-D (possibly 4?), (1) 1995-D (2) 1998-D, that's 12 total or roughly half of the 26 made in that grade pre 2000. I'm not trying to brag, I'm just trying to compare 2 totally different classes of coins in terms of difficulty. Yes it's apples and oranges and over different time periods etc. Which would you rather have from these 2 groups?

I actually like them from both groups! Pre 1982 is tough but when you find one, there is NO doubt it is a gem. Post 1982 though also has its points in the proof like finish and awesome details. Since I like all Lincolns, I can really say both! Dave

David, thanks for the response but have you seen a pre 1982 in 8? Wait a minute, how about any of those 9's mentioned from post 82-1998?
  • datentype - good finds! Where did they come from? Mint bags, rolls, mint sets? How many coins do you go through roughly till you "make" a 68?

LincolnSense, it's not a matter of how many rolls I go through for this. This coin was found in 1 roll that I purchased as part of a huge group. I only had 1 roll for this date! The question should be how many years does it take to find quality product as it only takes 1 roll and 1 coin. I wish it were workman like, where you could just sit down and go through 500 rolls and automatically find 1 ms68 and 10 ms67's etc but if it ain't there it ain't there period!

It's a tough choice between the best of the older memorials and the newer. The newer
ones really look more like proofs than mint state often. This is spectacular in a mint state
coin but the red of the older coins can also be spectacular. The older cents also seem to
have much thicker luster and really are far scarcer.

    Mark,

Only been able to afford to see these in pictures! Each is beautiful in its own right and way and I just don't know how I could ever make a choice if forced to! The two year groups you mention have their own character and hence, your comparison between apples and oranges. But not to worry, I like all fruits! So let's go find a dozen more so maybe I can afford oneimage. Take care and have a great weekend all. Dave
  • Great find Mark! I've always wondered what one of these looks like. Is the MS68 difference as striking as the MS67 vs MS66 for the 1961-63 years? I can always dream about the day I might own one of these MS68s.

Thanks perfectstrike! I knew this coin was an ms68 the second I found it. Crisp with killer color and of course virtually mark free surfaces. I reall wish that i had a scanner to share. My digital would not help things at all.
