This is why god invented sniper programs! While sniping isn't perfect especially if two or more people really want the card it rarely gets out of control that badly. Five and a half times book value can be a bitter pill to swallow.

I am not saying that this is a shill...the other guy could very well want the card..who knows? The obvious point is that the winning bidder could of saved himself some money by using a sniping service.
I don't know that that guy is a shill. I think he's just someone who couldn't hold his load, (ahem). He placed multiple bids on three different occasions, so I think the underbidder is just some inexperienced guy who wanted the card, but had no idea how high he was willing to go, hence the minimal bid increments.
I was not trying to infer that you were suggesting a shill bid.I hope that you didn't take it that way.It seems obvious to me that given the bid increments that were involved,it reeks of a shill bid.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
Guys, I have sold a PSA 9 Clemente for $280+ as well and as for the book price on this card I have never seen one sell for less than $125 with most going for closer to $200... It is the toughest star card in the set and with all the K card devotees and the Clemente Fans it tends to go for very strong prices..... I do not think the under bidder was a shill just an inexperienced bidder in dire need of a good snipping program .....
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... it's about learning to dance in the rain.
I was willing to pay $150 for this card in PSA 9, I'm not willing to pay over that, just don't think it's worth it to me even though I need it for my set. This Clemente card has gotten way out of control, the same seller put up another one and within hours it was up to $177.00
I guess I'll never get this card or get lucky someday and find it for cheaper, my guess is that I won't get it because I just can't see paying so much for a card that's population is not that small, but that's just me (apparently)
You'll get it eventually. It has sold for less in the past, and probably will again sometime. I got mine for $75 and there was one sold on Ebay in Sept 2002 for $58. I even know who got it

Looking for: Any high grade OPC Jim Palmer High grade Redskins (pre 1980)
My snipe came back as "bid too low" at $125.00. But, I'll keep plugging that number in every time I see a 70 Kellogg's Clemente 9 up until I get mine. Eventually, I'll get lucky and there will be a West Coast blackout, or all competitors will be on vacation or something...
Only pay what its worth to you...
