1939-D nickel reverse of 1938 value ?

fivecentsfivecents Posts: 11,207 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have an ANACS graded MS66 nickel the label states "1939-D reverse of 1940". Any nickel collectors or dealers know the value of this coin? Does PCGS even recognize this coin ? I can not find this coin in the PCGS coin number look up. Thanks for your help.

CU does not have a price for it, you might want to search on E-Bay and see if you can find anything...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Do you know if PCGS recognizes this coin ? I want to crack it out with my BFH (Big Friggin Hammer).image and send it to PCGS.

PCGS does recognize the 39-D rev of 1940. Is it a full step?

    Clackamas,

The label says 5 steps, but the steps are not even close to 5 steps. ANACS really dropped the ball on the step designation. Speaking of dropping the ball the label says 1939-D rev. of 1938, not rev. of 1940.image

    hey fivecents and oldgoat

too many people not paying attention when this topic is discussed and not using the "search" feature or some book/publication to discern these two Types. try this. why not take a 1938 coin that has at least partial steps, 2-5 will be sufficient, and a 1940-Present Jefferson with good step detail. concentrate on the area under the pillars and note any differences on the two coins with regard to the steps. now, you both tell me what an easily recognized difference might be between the two!!! when you have an answer, PM me or reply on the thread.

    ready, set, go...........tick, tick, tick...........

    hey fivecents

you might want to check out this linked auction to get an idea of the expected price for a Rev. of '38 in MS66FS. definitely one of the toughest available dates in this grade along with a 1950-P. this auction lost me at a bit over $200, but i never expected to win, i just needed to watch it.
