Slater's Auctions?

Any experience with Slater's Auctions? I won a lot of 5 PSA cards at $1500. I can understand the $15.95 shipping charge, but they added a $3 "handling charge" which is not listed in their catalog. So far, no response to my e-mails.image

Frank- I won one lot and called today because I have yet to get my invoice.

What was the lot # you won? Check the item in the catalogue and see if there is a (#) beside it. If there is than they charge extra shipping and handling. Usually it is for framed items and sets but that might be the case here.

I have won from them years ago and they were always prompt and helpful.

Thanks. My item had no "#". They didn't respond to 3 e-mails. I called today long distance and was told they made an error. So it cost me a $4 phone call to save 3 bucks! I think I'll stick with Superior and Mastro in the future.image

I sent them an email yesterday asking where to send a Paypal payment, since the auction pages, and their terms, said they accepted it. I received back a terse "do not use Paypal"
Not only did it take them 3 weeks for them to mail an invoice, they changed the terms after the auction ended.
I will never deal with them again.image

    Richard,
I was confused by that. I thought I read somewhere that they accepted paypal but when I called to find out where my invoice was sent they told me "no credit cards or paypal." I have dealt with them in the past and I remember it being no credit cards so I was kind of expecting that but the fact that it said they accepted paypal in one spot and not in the catalogue was really confusing.

From page 4 of the catalog, Rules Of Sale # 19
" Internet buyers may pay with Paypal"

So it was not only on the web site, but in the catalog also. If they had said no Paypal from the beginning, I would be fine with that. That wasn't the case though.

I paid $1730 with PAYPAL on 7/9 with no problem!! Used "slater@indy.net" as email of seller.

Richard - Thanks for pointing that out. I knew I saw it somewhere, I just thought it was only in one place. I just sent a money order yesterday but I would have definately preferred to pay via paypal. I will have to call before next auction to see if I can pay via paypal. There have been a few problems but they usually get some nice items and they usually have smaller lots than Mastro so I will continue to bid.

Frank....I just looked back. It was on 7/8 that they emailed and told me not to use Paypal. I guess I should have just sent a Paypal payment without checking first, but I wanted to be sure of the address.

It has now been over 2 weeks since I sent them a cashiers check, and still no lots. Five weeks from the end of the auction, with still nothing. I wish Mastro had never given them my name. I will never deal with this company again. image

Thanks for the heads-up on these guys. I remember a post a few months back about Slater's Auctions. I checked them out and saw some cool stuff so I bookmarked the site. Bookmark has been deleted!

Who else knows about them? Do they advertise anywhere? If word of mouth (the only other alternative) is important to their business, it seems that they have a lot of work to do. Why s**t where you sleep?

Thanks again. I'll be avoiding them.

I won one item in their last auction. The price was great. I paid with a personal check so shipping took some time. Other than that, no problems.

Finally reached them by phone today. First they couldn't find my account. When they did find it, they notified me that I hadn't paid for my lot. When I told them that I used Paypal, they said they're having a problem with Paypal and that they wouldn't "get" my payment for 30 days. When I informed them of Paypal's response to their claim, they promised to ship my lot today. Be assured that I won't be waiting at my door for this one to arrive!image
