Roosie Collectors -- are you really happy???

To: Roosie collectors, not investors or dealers:
Wasn't the roosie world a much more fun place to live, work, and play before FB/FT came along??? Be honest, wasn't life more direct, secure, and rewarding when you lusted madly after a beautiful perfect 68 color coin with no regard for a barely visible wave along the bands?? Wasn't the world a "fairer" place when your prohibitively rare 68 coin counted for the rarity it was?? Aren't you glad your 68 no band coins are now worth less?? Wouldn't you (again be honest) love to have that cool color coin in your set intead of an UGLY FB coin???? Think of the beautiful coins you are willing to drop (or HAVE dropped) from your set to replace with FB pigs...are you making the right choice, or is "regret" only a few months down the road............imageimageimage

I was perfectly content without FB, but, a few collectors/investors obviously saw $$$ in seeking the change. It will be fine for dealers and savvy collectors (who pursued well struck coins in the firstplace). New collectors entering the Roosie arena may subsidize much of the change.

I agree I was much happier before now I will have to try a build another set with fb/ft. I can wait to see what happens in a few months. I believe all the speculating will stop after that happens. You dealers make your money now!!!!!

Why is it any worse or better? If your MS68 coin is all that you desire then collect them regardless if they have full bands or not. MS67 roosevelts were essentially not worth getting slabbed unless it was for your personal collection. Now the choice coins with a full strike will get graded and be offered for sale. You should rejoice that the thousands of rolls that are sitting on people's shelves are being gone through to find those special coins, and these will then be made availiable to you. Incidentally, IMO, a coin can't be a 68 without a full strike, which would include the bands, but hey thats my opinion.

I was on one side of the fence and have since jumped to the other side. As Mitch said I to was content
before FB came along. I figured this FB thing was going to kill the MS68's out there value wise. And it
did kill the value of an MS67 & MS68 non-FB. But at the same time created an even higher level of value for
the EDS well struck Roosies. I have to admit,,, I got lucky. Of the 3 MS68 Roosies I had before FB, 2 received
the FB designation and there increased value has far exceed the loss I will take on the MS68 non-FB roosie.

As I said I was content. Now I'm having a blast hunting down and searching out some of these elusive high
grade full band Roosevelt dimes. I was not for the FB designation in the beginning but I have to admit this
is a fun and challenging set to try and complete in MS67FB.

Rainbowroosie, Believe it or not there are still a lot of pretty toned Roosies out there with full bands. You don't
have to give up the eye appeal to get FB. It sounds like your saying all FB Roosies are dogs.

Before the FB/FT designation, Roosies were fairly common in all dates. That statement is relative to the fact that most series have a number of well known keys that drive the marketplace. Now with the designation, I am certain the relative scarcity (notice I did not say rare) for some dates will be significantly higher and ultimately make the series more desireable for collectors to enter.

I say this as someone who has not entered the Roosie registry, but am looking at it as a possible companion to my Merc set.

You can't count on that until you sell.

I'm still happy with the roosie collection that I have and would not trade any of the coins just because they had FB/FT - to break up a well matched colorful set for the sake of the designation would defeat the entire purpose! image

  • I am with you Bill, the FB thing is a plague for true Roosie collectors. The net result of the FB designation is/will be the enormous devaluation of non-FB coins. Just look at what happened to Franklins: after they started FBL designation, since then you can hardly give away non-FBL Franklins.

The upside is, you will be able to buy non-FB dimes cheap.

  • I think a lot of the fb value will depend on how they are weighted in the registry
and how many bonus pt pcgs gives them

On a related subject, does anyone recall when PCGS is scheduled to add the weights for FB Roosie's? Thanks in advance for answers.

    Mark,
Last I heard it was going to be in September. That would be a good question for Homerun Hall on the Q & A forum.

Thanks for the info and good point about asking HRH. I'll go add a post there with that question.

I am not happy. I am only a Roosie type collector. I bought both my pieces a year ago. Of course, neither made FB, and so I had to buy two new pieces. Now I have a monster toned 55 in 67 and a 99D in 68 that aren't worth spit. Glad I only had a couple hundred dollars invested, and not a full set.
