Home U.S. Coin Forum

Use my web space for free. Now use up to 15MB!

I’m not using my domain like I used to and would like to offer the space for coin related information, pictures, articles, opinions, or whatever you want me to host on it. (Try to keep it clean) image

Just email me at thadd@thadd.com and attach it to your email. Make sure you include your CU member name so I can create a folder with that name. I’ll upload it and send you the URL to it after I’m done. The domain is www.thadd.com.

This just in.

I am able to give you your own ftp username and login to upload your pages on the web site. If you would like to do your own uploading, just email me and I’ll send you your login and password. If you have a password you would like to use, let me know and I’ll use it.

Please try to stay under 15MB so others can have space too.

Here are the instructions for logging onto your space. I'm not sure if this works with only XP or not.

1: Go to the My network connections icon and click on it.
2: Then click on add new network connection
3: Click next
4: Choose another netwrok connection and click next
5: type in ftp://thadd.com
6: unclick Log on anonymously then enter your username and click next
7: type in your name for this place and click next
8: click finish
9: It will ask you for your password and put it in then click ok.

After that simply drag and drop files like you on on your own computer

links to any images will be http://www.thadd.com/your username goes here/filename goes here

i.e. http://www.thadd.com/cosmicdebris/coolcoin.jpg

Thank you cosmicdebris for puting these instructions together.

    Thadd,

    Thanks for the offer.

I am tired of geocities. I can never post an image on the boards because of bandwidth.

thadd that's very generous of you.

Suggestion if you are gonna setup folders for everyone why just give them ftp access to their own folder and then they can upload their own. This way they won't have to bother you for every single image.

  • Bill, I’m actually trying to figure out how to do that. Had to leave for a few hours today but I’m going to work on it tonight. Thanks.

  • Okay, I’ve figured out how to allow users to have their own directory and upload to it themselves if you want.

See my edit in the OP. Thanks.

Thank you for the generous offer. I hope many members untilize and could become a very interesting site in itself. Email sent.

I know that I already posted my excitement once today but I really wanted to thank Thadd again for the help and space. Once the ftp issue got worked out, it was a breeze. I hope that I was a good guinea pig.

Members should really take advantage of this offer. Free, non bandwidth limited, web space is not easy to come by. That the site is dedicated to our common interest is even better. I just love it that I can post my coins now.

I, and my signature coin, once again say thanks!!!!

  • Glad to see some interest in this. Over 5 so far. Not everyone is posting their files yet but are all set up to do so. I’ll add them to the home page as they do.

Alan, I didn’t get an email yet, if I don’t reply soon you might want to resend it.

In the past I purchased a few domain names via Register.com They have been dormant. What does one have to do to create a useful website? I've been reluctant to use the "free" services as it seems they want the right to slip in "pop-up" ads, links of their own choosing and other such annoyances. I've seen software at CompUSA that seems to promise the world for do it yourself easy websight design but don't know how much of the hype to believe. Any suggestions welcome.
  • It’s fairly simple. You just need to understand how to create a page and upload it to the server. There are two methods most used, one is FTP where you create the page and upload it and other files related to the page to the server. The other method is much easier, you use a program such as Microsoft Front Page and created and publish your pages at the click of a button. Front Page is smart and takes care of a lot of the behind the scenes file transfers for you.

I wasn't around when the original offer was made, but if anyone still needs somewhere to host their files, just email me and I'll send you my ftp address. I've got 10GB of space and no idea what to do with it, short of uploading my entire hard drive. BTW, my email is gonfunko@gmail.com.

  • I can now offer 15MB per user instead of 5MB.

I also have room for a couple more people if you are interested.
