Paypal scam also??

topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭
I used to use Paypal.
Sold thousands of dollars of stuff through them
Then they froze my account on a $2000 deal
Both seller and buyer verified and no problem on either end.

SO

I will NEVER use their stinking service again and I ...........CLOSED...........my account.

BUT.

I just got this email from them in a form with spaces to fill out the info.
......................................................................
Dear PayPal Customer

This e-mail is the notification of recent innovations taken by PayPal to detect inactive customers and non-functioning mailboxes.

The inactive customers are subject to restriction and removal in the next 3 months.

Please confirm your email address and credit card information by logging in to your PayPal account using the form below:

........................................................................

Needless to say I did not respond. Nor would I respond to this pond scum outfit.

image

But I did forward it to eBay for them to check out.
I don't know if it is a legit Paypal email but I will not find out.
Too much info needed .....................and they are WELL AWARE of my account as I told them in no uncertain terms how much I despised them and wished them harm as they harmed me.

So ...... beware the email.

I don't get it? What did paypal do to you? Did they ever "unfreeze" your account? how long did it take? I heard that they were a good company, but I have not used them. I have only heard bad things about them on this forum.

This is one I received the other day. I'm sure it's fake.

    Dear Paypal Member.
We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance, and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification pages.

Protecting the security of your PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Please do not reply to this e-mail. Mail sent to this address cannot be answered.

I "ttt" the thread below as a warning since I got the same email 3x in one day! Some people still don't know and fall victim to the scammers. Ebay is doing little to nothing to help alleviate the scam.

Just remember, PayPal will never ask for personal , password, credit card, bank account information via E-mail. Anyone that does is a scam artist.

    NumisEd.....You tell ....ME!

Verified seller, verified buyer, verified shipping address.

    Auction runs full term.

Paypal has all my data and bank info.

BUT...........it was at the time that eBay bought them.

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

First they accepted the buyer's payment and credited to my account. LUCKILY, before I shipped (same day) they sent me a notice that my account had been ..........."restricted"
Called their 800 number...........no dice.........as I had not FAXED in the "Request form" downloadable ONLY from their stinking site.

    So...

I download the damn form.... Then have to go to a copy shop to include a copy of my mug on my DRIVERS LICENSE........in addition to all bank info again.

I wait 5 days and call again.

They are not satisfied with my bank info as I have an account DEDICATED to Paypal crap just so I can close it on a moment's notice.

They now want a .....................effing ............LETTER from my bank assuring them that I am me.

Bank is very helpful and provides a LETTER..........which incidentally must be accompanied by ANOTHER download of the form from their site. Bank also tells me it has had "quite a few" requests lately.

............this is 6 months ago or so.......whenever they were selling or whatever.

THEN.......what do the ...xxxxxxx's do? (names have been changed to allow the post to get through the filter) Why, they send me the GOOD NEWS that my account is no longer RESTRICTED..........

BUT...............golly gosh oh gee...................I can only have $500 per month out of it.

For a damn 2 grand normal deal !!!!!

HOWEVER........PayPal is a very UNDERSTANDING ..........bunch.

I have an ......................OPTION !!! Pant pant pant !

    I can ..........authorize............a $1.95.......... F E E ................and the wonderful company will let me have.....ALL................... of ............ M Y ....... money.

I authorized the fee. (other choice was boarding an airplane and going postal in their office)

Then I waited................and the ........... MICROSECOND that my bank confirmed MY money was in MY account......

    I ................ CLOSED ........that ........@#$%%@#%%% ..... Paypal account.... F O R E V E R !!!!

............................a buck ninety five..................... to get my money.

    wotta bunch!

    imageimageimageimage

edited to add that I ....saved.....EVERY stinking email on this transaction.

edited AGAIN to say that the above IS in their "Terms of use" so let's just say that our "terms" are incompatible. grrrrr.

Ah they did it to you too topstuf? They froze $1,400 in my account last year and they still haven't given back to me. I just gave up on them altogether. They're a joke. It's too bad most people won't realize it until it happens to them. There is no explanation for it, it just happens and then they come up with some B.S. reason as to why it happened. PayPal, the most unethical company in the modern world, just my opinion. image

cherrypickincoin.... A call to the Attorney General is in order.

IF.....we in Kaliphoney have paid his secretary, that is.

I would not let them have 1400 bucks.

Just think how HAPPY that 1400 makes them. NOW, will you follow up?

I've used PayPal now for years and never had ANY problems with them. As a matter of fact they refunded payment to me from a deadbeat seller that never sent the item...

Unfortunately PayPal doesn't waiver. I've tried contacting politicians, contacted the FTC, BBB, etc. to no avail. Politicians don't like to take on corporate giants unless they have the cojones to do it, which very few of them do anything but talk, talk, talk. I'm sick of being hung up on each time I've called PayPal, sick of having no responses, would love to do something about it but unfortunately any court and travel costs would amount to more than they have taken from me. These aren't isolated events, there are groups out there with thousands of people that have tried contacting politicians with regard to PayPal, nothing has worked yet. image

It seems to me that eBay would be better off creating their own payment system, like they did with BillPoint and drop PayPal like a ton of bricks. Worst business move in the past 10 years, just my opinion though, don't kill me for it. image

    cherrypickincoin,

Didn't you also get stuck with $700 in fees because your eBay account got hacked? You sure seem to get screwed over an awful lot.

Sure did Russ. That's why PayPal froze my account. Remember, eBay owns PayPal now.

The attorney general seems to be the words they respond to. They had about $1000 or mine held up for 7 months, when they didn’t release it to me after their 6 month hold period and I threatened to contact the California attorney general, they suddenly decided I would be getting my money back.
