PCGS MS66 1972-P TY1 IKE DOLLAR

GRANDAMGRANDAM Posts: 8,376 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hello,

I just made a PCGS MS66 1972-P TY1 IKE Dollar. PCGS has labeled it as TYPE 1. According to the population reports there are only 9 1972-P IKE'S graded MS66 by PCGS. This is all 3 Types. It lists ZERO Coins in TY1 MS66. What is this coin worth?

Thanks for your opinions.

A lot. The exact amount would be determined in auction. Since none have sold before, the price is anyone's guess. BTW, Congratulations on making a huge modern rarity.

I agree with Greg, that is one major coin. Nice.

Holy smoke. I never thought it would happen. Incredible, really. I'd sure appreciate a picture when it returns home.

Wow, fantastic. Just to be clear, this will be the 10th MS66 72-P, right?
You didn't just send in one of the previous 9 for variety identification?

Tough to say what it's worth. I would like some time to pass so that the
previous 9 have a chance to have their designation changed from the default "type 3".

I know we've tried to identify how many we know are type 3 in the past. I don't remember
how many we accounted for (I don't believe all of them).

    Congrats,

    Keith:

We accounted for 6 type 3s, 2 type 2s, and one unknown. I'm not sure about this one. The pop report still shows 9 72s in 66 with no type one yet. Grandam, can you clarify?

    Hello,

To clarify things. This coin is a brand new submission. I purchased it as a raw coin and had it slabbed myself. In this same batch I also made:

    PCGS MS65 1971-P - 2 COINS
    PCGS MS65 1972-P TY1 MS65
    PCGS MS65 1972-D MS65 - 2 COINS
    PCGS MS65 1973-P MS65
    PCGS MS66 1973-P MS66

These were MONSTER Coins and well deserving of the grades. (IMHO)

Saturday was my birthday. I left and went to the Chicago Mid-America Coin Show on Thursday. When I returned on Friday I had grade confirmation & found PCGS was sending me one HELL of a Birthday present.

As I have said before,,,,,"ARE THERE ACTUALLY OTHER COMPANIES WHO GRADE COINS & IF SO WHY WOULD ANYONE PURCHASE ANYTHING OTHER THAN A PCGS GRADED COIN?"
