1943 1 cent error?

I have a penny from 1943, since I can tell it's not one of the copper ones. But where the date
is, it only shows 19 the 43 was not stamped on it. I'm going to keep it, but is it worth sending
in to have it verified?

    Sounds like it may have been struck through grease - can you post a pic of it? It sounds interesting.

    I tried to scan in the coin, but it just doesn't come out right. I'll have to charge
    the batteries in the digital camera and take a pic of it that way. So, I'll post a
    link later.

    Steel cents with the 4 or the 43 missing due to being struck through grease are fairly common. Especially those just missing the 4.
