Anticipation is over. The 18D is here. Merc that is.

Just about everything I expected. Little added bonus is the band of light blue at 5 o'clock on the obverse. Bands are about 60 to 70 percent with a very nice strike on the reverse. Cool coin in my opinion. image

Pretty coin, Ken, and a great strike for an '18-D. I'll be interested in seeing the '24-P when it arrives. They usually seem to have a more granular surface than other dates.

    Nice fishing lurer
just need to send it thru an elongated machine and drill holes at both ends and there you have one of the best fishing lurers around.

I have to admit it's nicer than mine

    Ken:

That is a VERY pretty coin. But there is one thing I do not understand about this thread. Why did you title it "... The 18D is here. Merc that is."? When I look at the originator of the thread and see it's you, I know immediately that we are talking about the most beautiful coin in existence, the Merc! No need to add that the 18D is a Merc--in your case, it's understood!

More seriously, that is a definitely nice coin. I know that you both buy and sell--I presume that you feel that this 18D is a long-term keeper?

Mark the 18D is a keeper....I think. The buying and selling that I do has come about just because of the curiorisity to see Mercs. It was not a planned thing at all.

Take this 18D for instance. The photo that David Lawrence made me believe that the coin had a pretty darn good strike but I could not see anything luster wise. A chance was taken, as the coin I had and Dennis has now has great luster in my opinion, and it was hard to give up the one I had. Let me tell you this game of taking chances does not always work, some clunkers have been bought. This one just happened to turn out good.

Hey some times I do buy other things besides Mercs. I have some Canadian Mint Sets also. image I suppose if 1972 was put up in the title you would think it was a funny looking Merc though. image

Well anyway Thanks for the comments on the coin. I really do think its a very nice coin and it would not be in my possession with out the help of some of our Registry folks here. That is just another advantage we have as the Best group of collectors in the Universe. image

    Hi Ken,

Yeah! I am so glad to hear that the musical chair 18-D has ended up with you owning a better coin that you like. If not for you, 3 of us would not have been able to upgrade our sets, so your one purchase has had a tremendous effect on the Merc sets! I know that all of us appreciate it! Mercateers are tight, and help each other out, this is what sets us apart, and makes us so unique on the registry boards. Can't wait to hear about your 24-P.

    Ken:

Boy, after reading Wayne's comments, am I peeved--your little game of musical chairs has increased a bunch of people's sets leaving me ever further behind in the dust!! image Sob, sob, sob..........

But, I more truly believe Wayne's comment about Merc collectors helping each other out. It is truly neat to see this occur. Though I tend to be stand-offish from these sorts of trades (because I, personally, don't like to mix business with friends or potential friends), nonetheless it is truly heartening to see people helping each other rather than slicing throats.

Mark, ditto I totally agree - I'd rather everyone have the same chance to get an example that they need so as not to have any hurt feelings or favororitism - but I guess both ways can work.....

Ken, that is a really neat coin - mine is 65 too - really nice image why doesn't it show updated by your set??
