If you paid with a credit card, you can file for fraud protection through them. The most you're liable is $50. However, some cards have a zero liablity feature. This is why I try to make all my online payments via credit card.

Since the US mail was the mode of shipping, I think you have some recourse with mail fraud. You'll need to talk to the people at the P.O. about that one, though. I'm unsure. But it would be worth checking into.

The third method of recorse is to contact your D.A. to see what your leagal options are with reguards to fileing charge.

    Best of luck. Total bummer.

it is sad when someone gets taken advantage of, it is all too easy. can you give the ebay item #?
  • You can file a complaint with Paypal. Contact the Postal Inspectors and file complaint on USPS.COM at bottom of page click Postal Inspectors and follow instructions.

  • Who was the seller? Lets not let him take advantage of anyone else!
  • You have to file a fraud complaint with paypal within 30 days of the transaction date. Do It

You have to wait until 30 days after auction close to file a complaint with Ebay. Do It

Depending on how much the seller screwed you for you are probably going to be S*** out of luck. I don't think mail fraud will be investagated unless the dollar amount exceeds something like $3000.00.

    Good Luck

What is the sellers Ebay ID? Have an auction number?

If you look at sellers feed back you would see that 10 of the 11 negatives were from Apr or later this auction was in March and there was only 1 Negative feedback comment. 1 negative out 500 is not that bad. Evidently the seller had some trouble and it affected his judgement and responsibility.

  • By the seller's name, on that auction, it seems to indicate that he's not registered. What da heck.

What a wild and wacky ebay world.

  • What the FEDS should do is, make all e-bay sellers/auctioniers provide a fee to do buisness on line. Everyone would be required to put down at least $1,000 retainer, to be held as an insurance policy for those who they wrong.

All those negs were from May of 2001, not 2003. The seller stopped eBaying from May of 2001 to March of 2003, nearly two years! Probably got NARUed back in 2001 and finally got back on.

That would probably eliminate all but the power-sellers. A casual e-bayer couldnt afford to tie up a K just to sell his/her stuff.

It takes money to make money. E-Bay is a platform for rip off artist. It's happening every day on e-bay. I'm sorry if the little old lady wants to sell her couch on e-bay. It will cost a K to get in mam.

    Rodian,
    There are 3 possibilitites....

Seller shipped labels vice coin (presumably on purpose, possibly by mistake)
Package was tampered with prior to delivery
Buyer is not telling the truth about what arrived (assume this is not the case since you have posted a complaint)

Did you pay the extra $3 for insurance? Did the package appear tampered with when it arrived?
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • the package appear not tampered with when it arrived.
I paid 3.00 for insurance. Seller send regular mail with delivery conf.
If you email me direct i will send pics and more info.

The seller is listed as not a registered user because his account is closed. This most likely happened after the auction in question.

I got ripped by a guy for about $250 back in January, at the time he had 300+ positives, no negs. Then 20 negs along with mine in a 4 week period, apparently one person got a refund.

Complaint filed, etc. The usual stuff. Couple weeks later the seller was listed as not a registered user on all the auction pages.

Sorry about your loss, but like others here have said, I'm afraid you're screwed.
