Has anyone compiled figures for remaining coins by type? For example, is there one source where I could find an estimate of the number of remaining flowing hair half dimes or the number of small eagle $ 5 gold?

    Robert Hilt wrote a book on early die varieties where he extrapolated some percentages of survival. It was just a theory. There have been other theories as well. I think that you may be able to get some other input from members of the John Reich Society or Early American Coppers.

    I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
