...without buying a coin or anything coin related? I'm curious how many collectors we have out there versus coin addicts. image

I know I shouldnt for being currently unemployed...image but I HAVE to either visit the coin shops for rinky dink stuff
or go to the bank for rolls to search.
I,m sorta addicted to hunting down coins `in the wild`= from circulation.

Since I resumed collecting three years ago, not a day has gone by where I have not been searching for coins, studying coins, thinking about coins, or madly buying them when I can.

Your seeing who else is addicted? I AM ADDICTED.....help!

I went 5 years while I was in college. I bought cheaper coins at auctions when I was in high school and made some good buys. When I was an undergrad, I stopped collecting, but I still had my coins. Then in grad school I started again. Right now, I am going on 1 month without buying a coin. I've made some bids but it seems the prices have gone up recenltly and I'm not ready to pay the new prices.

I guess there IS a parallel universe out there after all.

I went about 15 years without buying a single coin (not even proof sets from the Mint). But I still continued my ANA membership and Coin World subscription all that time.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

As far as buying, only once or twice a month. On the other hand, thinking about, talking with others, reading, etc. : DAILY!

I pretty much dropped out of the hobby from late 1984 to 1990; the (post) high school, college, and early working years, as in Baley's case. I'd sold off all but three of my "sentimental" coins.

Although I've just started collecting for the first time, I have to agree with the "not a day goes by" statement.

  • My longest period in withdrawals was about 6 mos. Actually I take that back... 2 years when I was working in, of all places, Alice Springs, Australia. If any of you know where that is you'd know why!!!
