FEC experts: Why was this 1858 graded AU55?

From Heritage current Exclusively Internet Auction.
I know it 's just a scan. But looks pretty good for AU55. I 've seen MS62/63 that look worse.
Of course, I am no expert in anything.image

Is that a rub on the bottom of the wreath?

that is a lot of coin to be called 55! my guess is a touch of rub and the moderat contact marks on the reverse, the obv looks MS and very nice MS at that!

Beats the heck out of me. Judging from the scan the obverse is MS and a high grade. Maybe something is going on with the obverse we can't see due to poor lighting and the black ICG core.

A very nice coin from the scan. The only reason I can think of is light cleaning?

  • The rims appear to be damaged. PCGS probably would BB it. Otherwise it does look to be an MS63
