Mercury Dimes Basic Set - Top 20

I am pleased to be on page 1 of the Basic Mercury Dimes Set after seven months of collecting PCGS certified mercury dimes. I am in 20th place with my set. I still do have the ability to post quaity images of the coins (one of my next to do's). I first became interested in the Mercury dime when I stumbled across this message forum. I was so impressed by the quality of the discussions held by the members and their love for the merc's. I just had to find out why they liked the coins so much, I was hooked. I hope to have the courage to post here, even though I am soooo new and just begining to learn about the merc and collecting. I have purchased all the books mentioned on this forum and read every link to information concerning the mercury dime. Thanks for all the information posted. Thanks to all of you that have sold me the nice merc's.

Thanks,
Richard T. (Guardian)

    Hi Richard, and welcome!

I'm happy you joined us. In looking at your set, I see you have been on a major buying spree. 5 new dimes added, WOW! Welcome to the front page, I know the feeling. Took me several months also. I see you knocked Rudy's Ladies down to #21. I remember when that set was #7. Just goes to prove that the quality of the front page Merc sets has really improved! If ever I can be of any help, just let me know.

    Regards,

    Richard

If you ever need Dimes post something either in a thread or on the Buy Sell Trade Board. Heck the guys here would rather, in most cases, sell to a Registry person straight out instead of putting the coin on Ebay for public sale.

I think you know what I am talking about. A little better deal could have been made. image

    Richard,

Welcome to our happy band of Merc collectors. Those of us in the lower half of the front page (I was 18th as of yesterday) enjoy this as much as those near the top. It is all about the quest to complete the set.

Ditto with all the comments here and congrat's Richard - welcome aboard - I did did not have a chance to check out your #20 yet, but if Wayne says they're cool they probably are. Will do so over the weekend. Glad you took the plunge, and good luck.

  • Welcome to the front page. A very tough place to get to and sometimes hard to stay there. Mercs are a worthwhile coin to collect. Very popular and a very cool coin. IMO a great investment just for the joy they bring. John Voege

    Ken,

I've really found some issues of frayed opinions when I tried that - i.e. to post a Merc on BST or private sale. I've truly found when I post a coin on Ebay at least everyone has the best/same chance to get it over a period of 7-10 days. I truly believe its healthier for all. Besides, some of us don't log in daily or lets say a couple times a day - if you posted that coin and I missed something I really wanted I'd be dissapointed. just MHO.

Let me also welcomeyou to the front page. And as you said the Mercury dime collectors are some of the best (except when they pass me). It is truly a fun group. The group as a whole is the most helpful on the board.

  • Richard,
I second the opinions that have already been expressed here. As one of the original collectors, before the registry, and it became a part of my everyday life, I found that the registry has really come a long way, in fact, I have made several new friends, that would not have came to pass if it were not for this forum. The advise of others, and the shared knowledge is so valuable in our hobby. I hope you fall right in with both feet, express your ideas and knowledge, even though you say you are new to Mercury Dimes, you will still kinder up new ideas and things we have overlooked in the past. Again, welcome to the forum, and always remain with an open mind, sometimes it gets touchy in here, but we are all have fun with it.image

    Richard:

My collection is #19 (GULP) and so if you want to know the truth about the Merc collectors: The collectors who have sets numbered 1 to 18 are all scum of the earth. Anybody who has a set 19 or higher is the salt of the earth. So, you must now stop up-grading or you will move from the salt category to the scum category.

    P.S. image and welcome!

  • Mark,
Thanks for the kind words and advice. I will try not to move up. (at least until I find a deal I can not resist)

I look forward to communicating with the group and learning as much as I can! image

Sets 1 to 18 are the Scum of the Earth ? You are banished to the corner for a week to think about that statement. No food or drink either.

Also a apology dime will be sent to every member that has a Set between 1 and 18. ASAP !!!

    Ken:

Actually I am headed off for a vacation for a week, so there will be plenty of food and especially drink for me. If I remember when I get back, I'll send an apology dime to everyone (image). But Ken, I know you won't want one because it would be bright and shiny!
