Common household items containing PVC

Yesterday my thoughts were wondering.......something about storing coins in trash bags.....then PVC came to mind....

What common household items contain PVC?

Plastic drains, some wastebaskets, the plastic body of many appliances. If it is a hard dense opaque plastic it may be PVC. If it comes into contact with food it almost certainly will not be PVC. (Most food grade containers are polyethylene or polystyrene.) In most cases if it is a soft pliable plastic it probably is NOT PVC.

Yup, good old PVC pipe was the first thing I thought of. Every hardware store in the world has it.

so, don't store your coins in your sink drains.

If the item has a recycling number on it, #3 is PVC. The others are not.
For those interested in the details:
#1 PETE (polyethylene terephthalate) - soda and beverage bottles, mouthwash bottles, peanut
butter jars and some spice and ketchup bottles.
#2 HDPE (high density polyethelyne) - usually milk and water jugs, detergents, bleaches
    and cleaners.
#3 PVC (polyvinyl chloride) - telephone cable, floor mats, irrigation pipe, truck bed liners,
    garbage cans.
#4 LDPE (low density polyethelyne) - trash bags, grocery bags, fiberfill for pillows, pipe,
    plastic lumber.
#5 PP (polypropylene) - carpet backing, auto battery cases, video cassette cases, plastic
    lumber.
#6 PS (polystyrene) - food trays, cups, silverware, toys, plastic lumber, garbage cans,
    insulation, combs.
#7 Other - plastic lumber, parking lot backstops, barrier retainers, fencing, sign posts,
pallets, picnic tables, playground equipment, and flooring.

man I love PVC too. PVC flips are the best. soft, pliable, they stay flat, they're easy to work with. those non-PVC flips are pure crap. they're hard to get coins in and out, they crack, don't fold properly, don't lay flat, they're sharp.

and for what? after 50 years the coin might develop an invisible dot of PVC. screw non-PVC.
