Mercateer passing signals, moving up one more

Hi Mercateers!

Just a courtsey heads up. I've added a new dime(now 2) which moved me up a place.(now 2) 1927-D in AU55.

Yes Ken, you were correct. Picked up the 20-D MS63 from Alpine. I wanted to get confirmation that I got it before adding it to my set. It is your kind of dime! I will add it tonight.

Also won a NGC MS66 31-S that I will try to cross to PCGS, and I still have my 18-D upgrade from AU58 to MS64 coming.

Marc, sorry, I didn't realize I needed to say goodby to my old neighbor! See ya!

Wayne

    Wayne,

Congrats! We haven't seen much movement with the Mercs lately. Nice to see some of that movement again.

    Wayne:

So that's where the 41-S dime from Ellesmere went! I believe that coin was pictured, right? If it's the one I'm thinking of, it was a very pretty coin. Of ocurse, I presume it's still a pretty coin!

Wayne I saw it on the Web Site yesterday. Was going to pluck it off but then remembered you had said something about a 20D. You are correct it was my type of dime. Sure wish that guy would get more Merc Dimes. The couple I have purchased from him have been nice. image

Spent over 2 hours searching sites yesterday and did not find a single 40S in 66FB that I liked. Must be a tough date ...Huh ?

    Hi Ken,

IMHO, the 40-S and the 42-S are both scarce in high grade full bands. I've been hunting a 42-S in 66FB or 67FB for about 3 months. I have a real nice 66FB 40-S. Got it from a guy in Oregon when he had a lapse of reason. You wouldn't like it though, it is nice and white. Has a nice cello slab protector on it. BTW, where do you get those Ken? imageimage ;,

    Wayne.

I can find White ones everywhere. image The toned ones are more scarce than I thought. Airplanenut (Jeremy) gave me a tip on a Toned 42D last night so I will see what happens with it. In the mean time I bought one that has very light tone. Guess I am getting into 42D's now.

Hey I have another one of those celephane wrapped dimes heading to Texas tomorrow. Man those celephane things seem to shuffle between Oregon and Texas. image The wrappers I use to protect the slabs are Baseball Card slips. All slabs fit in them but you have to stretch the top of the wrapper to get a PCGS slab in it. 100 of them for 1 buck. Its my version of the "Slab Caddy" but on a much cheaper scale. Also I can carry more than two dimes in my Caddy's. image

Wayne, looks like we're gonna have a war when a nice 42-S in 67FB does surface as I've been looking for a nice example too for many months and none to be had. I did miss out on a super example with Heritage back a few months - one of those were I shoulda coulda remorse you know. Final price was high image

BTW, the 40S is not so common either and correctly tough indeed too.

As long as your still in the neighorhood it s ok!!

It's nice to see the mercury dimes being added againimage

And the hear that a 1918-D was being regraded from an AU58 to MS64 is a very nice move.

I believe that there are many AU58 mercury dimes that are MS coinsimage

I will try to get to the ANA in Baltimore this year and will be looking to add something to my collectionimage maybe

    Hi PT,

My 18-D was not regraded, I upgraded it, and traded my AU58 18-D dime to another board member for the AU55 27-D I added last night. One new 18-D came into the registry, and it will change 4 sets before the dust settles, mine twice! I agree on your AU assessment. I have several AU coins in my set that IMHO should be MS coins, including the one I just traded off. I probably should have cracked that one and resubmitted it! I think it should have been at least MS62. Colton should be very happy!

    Mark,

I don't think this one was pictured, I bought it out of their mail flyer that I receive. I can't believe I got all 3 dimes I wanted. The 41-S has a little die polish on the obverse, it is not what I would call PQ, but is a solid MS67FB dime. The 42 and 45-D were bargains, PQ 67FB coins in every sense of the word!

    Ken,

If I can ever afford to upgrade the 20-D to 63 or better full bands, you get first shot at the Alpine one if you want.

    Regards,

    Wayne

BTW, I have the following PCGS Mercs for sale, first to fellow "mercateers". PM if interested.

    1941-S MS66FB

    1942-P MS66FB

    1945-D MS66FB
