One Set only in Merc Registry has a "True Grade Rank".

and that set is Ricks No Band Set.

Its late, 2:30 AM, I'm wide awake with nothing to do but look at sets and read a few threads that have been posted both here and on the coin forum.

How about some of you other folks. Do you look at the way your set is graded in a True Grade sense ? By this I mean forget the designation bonus points for Full Bands and the weights. Just take your set and add up all of the numbers to attain your True Grade.

Just for the heck of it this is what I came up with for my set right at the moment.

Weighted Grade Now...65.95
% Grade Rank Now......59.97

True Grade Now...........65.02
% True Grade Now.......62.12

Am I Bored or what at this late hour ? ..........image. This is not a advocation that the Sets should be ranked like this but just a way that I look at mine.

Edit to Add: Down in slots 69,72,75,78,79 these sets also are True Grade Sets. image

  • I have to agree with Pat.

  • I too liked the simplicity of the old way. I find it very difficult to know which coin is best for my NGC registry set; those calculations are even harder!
  • I look at my set to see how happy it makes me and my set makes me very happy. I have 3 coins I never thought I would have. Granted they are all in lower grades, but I own them, can look at them whenever I want to and never have to worry about trying to find the "perfect" coin. In my eyes, all my coins are the perfect coin and I am very pleased with them.

Now, don't get me wrong. I still enjoy "competing" in the registry, but I am not real concerned with what my garde or ranking is. I do like to see how I compare against other sets, but when I look at some of the higher grade/ranking sets, I realize I can never compete with them and go back to being happy with mine and in awe of the better sets.

Beth I know what you mean. Everytime I look at the Joshua II Set the drool just starts running like a river at flood stage. Two Key Boards have blown up in the last year from uncontrolled moisture. image

That is why my set of Rarly Date Lincoln Proof coins(1936-1958) has 0% Cameo or DCAM.

    Hi Ken,

ROTFLMAOWTIME, (about the keyboard)! Sure hope you put on a drool guard before you look at your dimes! You will dang sure have to before you look at mine! I don't want you getting my pretty eagle binders all yuked up! I like Beth's take on the matter. Like her, I'm building this set to please me, but it is still nice to see how I rank against other "Mercateers".
