May I propose some ideas for curteousy on this board?

Howdy,

First off, this is not an attempt to blame anyone, or spark an arguement. I think my ideas might just help people filter what they want to see on this board when you are selling. What are your opinions of these proposed guidelines?

1- If you are selling multiple items, put them in the same thread- that way to don't bump as many people down

2- If you are auctioning goods, then they are not really for sale... please don't use "For Sale" with a link to an auction. If it is an auction, say it is an auction, if it is for sale on the boards/fixed price on eBay/on a website, then say "For Sale," because that's what it is.

3- Please don't ttt your threads many times a day- remember, when you do, someone else's post falls... the more one person ttt's, the more everyone does.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on these ideas image

I think these should be followed by everybody.

  • Nice rules, but we'll still get people who will want to do it their way.
Perhaps the board should consider a forum for Ebay or (auction) sales all it's own?
    This might solve one problem...

  • All great ideas. However, all have been suggested and some even tried before. Unfortunately, there are those that will not follow these guide lines. image

and some of "those" have had to have seen these similar threads in the past and Still ignore them.

I think I am going to get in my junk box and list 50 items individually later tonite.

Most sellers abide by these "common law" rules. There are a few "outlaws" that could use a good hang'n, though.

These are great ideas and as with all undesireable behaviours there has to be the provision of information about their inappropriateness and disincentives for engaging in these behaviors. Who will serve these purposes?

  • I am 100% behind the one about auctions. If it's an ebay auction...at least say so in the subject of the post.

I agree regarding auctions, as it is frustrating to go to endless auctions.

Regarding the posting everything in one thread - just doesn't always work that well. I guess I am one of the singled out perpetrators of more than one thread at a time, however, as a buyer the title takes me to the thread. If I see a title "stuff for sale", I may not feel inclined to weed through a long list of unrelated items. As a buyer or seller, I would rather view things in categories.

I have three, four or five threads going - one for mint and proof sets, one for early type set coins, one for Morgans, one for Lincoln proofs - some may think it's all "junk", but, I have some extra stuff, and the folks who have purchased this "junk" were looking for these items - so what harm has been done? A buyer bought and a seller sold, which is the spirit of this forum anyway.

Endless "ttt" is a pain, and I try not to do it.

I kind of agree with SarasotaFrank. I like to see for sale adds catagorized. It's too hard to wade through otherwise. How about as a seller just listing one or two catagories on the front page befor adding more.

I'm with Greg and Frank. Sometime too much listed together is not good. I have a thread of proof & mint sets, a thread of PCGS coins, another thread of newly listed PCGS coins, and one thread linking an e-bay auction.

I normally ttt just once a day.

  • Jeremy,
I fully agree that items for sale here should all be listed together in one thread. However I don't totally agree that items listed on ebay are not "For Sale". If everyone agrees that items should be listed in a different manor then so be it, but the items I place on Ebay are certainly "FOR SALE".

I also agree with sarasotafrank and a couple of others.....I think
it's easier for someone interested in a particular "series" to be able to
click on a thread and see "Morgan's for sale" or "Peace for sale" or "Franklin's
for sale"........such as we do........saves people time "wading" thru stuff they
    don't need/want to look at.....imoimage

Just my thoughts and opinion......but will go along with the majority.image

Yes, but not immediately... "For Sale," to me, means that I can PM you and the coin is ready to be paid for... if you link to a fixed price, then it's for sale... the auction means that the coin is only for sale if you bid higher than everyone else- I feel a sale is fixed price, an auction is not.

  • Hopefully people will realize they are turning others off and it would be better business to not be annoying.
