Congrats to Teemu

Congrats on being the first on the registry with a complete set of 54-55 Topps hockey with an average GPA above 8. This is truly one of, if not the toughest hockey set to complete in high grade. The GPA for his set stands at 8.08 with all cards grading PSA 8 or better. Those who understand this issue can truly appreciate this.

  • Tom (Teemu) has done an unbelievable job on this set. He also owns one of the premier hockey card collections in the world (over and above his 54's).

On the horizon is a second 54 Topps hockey set with a GPA of 8.05 that should be posted within the next 24 hours so the competition for top spot in that classic set is only beginning

Probably one of the most attractive sets ever made of any card set. I can only imagine what his look like side by side.

it's a pretty good set, but it's no '53-54 parkhurst.

seriously, teemu has an unbelievable set that should warrant consideration for the registry hall of fame when psa presents the annual awards later this year. what's mind blowing is that he's six 8's away from another 8.00 '54-55 set. i'd love to see scans of his sets and also hope i one day cross hobby paths with tom.

Randy.. How long is it that you've had this psychic ability? The set has been posted and with the GPA of 8.05, just as you predicted.

Sorry no psychic ability here. Threeputs emailed me after he had posted his set and said it would be up soon. When i was building my set i worked very closely with him on many large purchases. One of the class acts of the hobby. He also has a monster Topps All american football set with a few PSA 9 1/1's as well but his first love is the 54's.

He also has many great stories about opening packs of 54's as a kid and getting frustrated not being able to get any of the Leafs or Canadiens. His set has been complete for a few years but in the past year he has did some major upgrades.

One more comment about both Teemu and Threeputs both are true collectors in every sense of the word. You could offer them $100000 for their sets and neither would give it a second thought saying no thanks
  • I would like to thank all the hockey card collectors for recognizing my 54 Topps Hockey set. It was definitely a long struggle that included a lot of luck along the way. I worked very hard to finish it and was very lucky at times to have many things go my way. I am pretty much finished with that set as finding another PSA 9 seems very unlikely. I am gonna start concentrating on many other 50's and 60's sets. I just recently sent my raw sets including the 57 Topps set, 60-63 Topps and 61-63 Parkie sets in for grading to take advantage of the May/June grading special and needless to say "I got hammered." My grades were much lower than I expected. Most all of the 7's I received are nicer than most 8's I see for sale at shows. Has anyone else sent alot of hockey in for the special and how were your grades?

I would also like to say I've enjoyed getting to know the other hockey card collectors out there. I met Randy in Toronto and have formed a great friendship with him. He's truly a class guy with a weatlh of knowledge when it comes to hockey cards. I have just recently had correspondence with Steve and am looking forward to meeting him. I will be at the National later this month along with the Toronto show in the fall if any of the hockey card nuts would like to get together and have a cold one. By the way Randy, if you added another zero to your price on the 54 set, I might consider selling it. Ha ha. Once again, thanks to all. Teemu(Tom)
I collect Vintage Hockey cards in PSA 8 or better.

oh man you have 2 '54 sets in the top 5? Im having problems finding one single psa 8 card for my type set. that is truly an accomplishment.

if i had the capital, this would be the first set i'd go for in psa 8. but, as the saying goes, you cant eat caviar if you're on a mcdonalds budget (maybe this isnt a saying, maybe i just heard it on comedy central or something. whatever)
  • I've been sending in lots of 1969 OPC hockey during PSA's specials.....can't say that I got hammered but
they do/are grading tough.....here is something interesting though: Of my KSA graded cards that I got
re-graded by PSA , total 14 cards, 2 went up a grade, 5 stayed the same, 2 went down 1 grade, 5 went
    down 2 grade points.
The first person in the PSA universe to complete the 1969 OPC
Hockey set! Always looking to buy, trade or upgrade 1966 Topps to 1969 OPC.

I have done okay on my submissions. My pre-war has come out about what I expected. I have done well on the 1960's cards I submitted but poorly on the 1950's. Over-all I have been pretty happy with the results.

    Re: the '69 OPC's--

How does PSA treat that blue fuzz on the right horizontal side of the card? I've got a bunch of these that are nice, but I'm nervous about submitting them.

    mostly as expected.
the 2's had very minor paperloss/alblum glue I obviously thought they might get 3-4,
as they have before. otherwsie very consistent.

sorry friend, these are all from my collection.
although most of the '54's are duplicates.
I'm moving into graded sets on the "kings" and "puck gums".
having become bored to pieces with the overpriced baseball market.
(it's worse than the pajama people).
