Opinions on this rare 1600's Mass. Hammered Coin

19th or 20th Century fantasy piece? Of course I'd love to think this
is a 1600's contemporary counterfeit, as I know there were no official COPPER 'NE' pences struck! Anybody ever seen a copy of a New England silver coin as a hammered copper?

Definite fantasy, I have no idea if it was 19th or 20th century. As you said there was never any official copper coinage of that type, nor was there even any authorization for that denomination which would justify patterns. the pictures aren't good enough to really study the fabric of the dies but the placement of the images on the planchet are wrong for a coin of that type issue.
