"LIBERTY" on a seated dime, viewed under a loop

Has anyone else noticed that, when viewed under high magnification, the letters for the word liberty fail to resolve into letters, but just look like a collection of blobs? It is an interesting optical phenomenon.

For me, just 10x, but this may be a function of my aging eyes/brain.

And probably moreso when viewed with a doublet and not a corrected triplet. At least that has been my experience.

I saw that on one of my NGC slabbed (MS63) coin the other day and thought I had a bum coin. I'm glad that this is a normal occurance.

Sometimes when looking at incuse lettering, you tend to focus on the rasied background. An optical illusion of sorts, I believe.
