Where my Lincoln Cent Set would be if I got all coins graded by PCGS.

I have my PCGS graded Lincolns 1909-1958 in the registry, I'm 60th, "Lincoln Cents". I have many dates in NGC holders too, and the ones after 1934 I have raw. If the NGC ones crossed, and if I got the conservative grades I gave to my raw coins (mostly only ms65) my set would be as follows (I did all the math with the weights and bonuses and everything).

66.09 GPA, 82% complete, 92% red, 47.47 rating for 17th currently.

I wonder how many others have PCGS ones listed but much of their set not in PCGS holders? Any others? I have no plans to get any NGC ones crossed or raw ones graded for grading is so expensive (much more expensive than the cost of the 1934 and on coins themselves!). Maybe if PCGS had a Lincoln "short set" 1909-1933 I would consider doing it in PCGS slabs only!

    Welcome haletj.
I have all my most valuable non proof Lincolns slabbed by PCGS and in the registry. Fact is these only account for 15% of the set. I, like you, have all the others raw in my Capital holders but right now thy are not worth it to me to get certified. Whether your coins are raw or in NGC/other slabs, it still will cost money to get them into the PCGS registry. In my case we're talking over 100 more coins in the 1909-1958 wheat cent series. What I am doing instead is working on my memorial proof coins this year. At least those are a little more manageable regarding quantity. Good luck. Steveimage

I have a similar situation. My set from 1909-1933 is about half NGC. I might concider a mass submission once the set is 100% complete. For now, my set is registard at NGC only.

I do think it it would be a good deal if PCGS would offer that sticker service that was mentioned a while back. It was only an idea being thrown around, but it made really good sence to me. Basicly, PCGS would asign a serial number and grade to coins in NGC holders even if the coin didnt cross at the same level. I think the thought was that there would be a sticker attached to the back of the NGC holder with PCGS's opinion of the grade. You could then enter the coin into your registry at the lower PCGS grade even. This seemed more than fair to me. I dont think it was totaly ruled out, but it's my understanding that it wont happen any time soon.

Similar situation with my proof merc set. I have all seven coins, but two
are in NGC holders, so it's not registered. One of these days, maybe... image

Understand your situation. My very best coins are all in NGC holders and I am not crossing them for two reasons. First, I don't think PCGS looks at crossovers from NGC slabs objectively. Second, I live in "FEAR" an irreplacable coin could be damaged/lost. You can still show your stuff off in someone's case at a major show. SIMCO has allowed me to do this on several occasions. I think you'll be very pleased to hear praiseworthy comments from many collectors who appreciate coins not plastic.image
