What a difference the picture makes

Bid on an 1834 dime on EBay listed as AU. I wound up paying XF money for it. Here is the pic that was posted with the auction:

Coin looks mint to me, also dipped (is it a curated dipping or a cleaning dipping?)
Here's a pic I took:

Good deal?

  • You're picture shows a lot of hairlines...probably won't slab..but I'll caveat that...I have an AU-53 PCGS Morgan hairlined all to hell....so who knows. Pretty coin, though...
  • Nice Coin. I've been buying some early bust coinage also. Your picture does show some hairlining but I wonder how many completely problem free cirulation struck coins there are out there.

whenever i see an item on auction such as this, and it looks that clean, white, it tells me that the coin has most likely been dipped, cleaned, and would have many hairlines.......image

I vote for harsh cleaning + dipping

Looks unc. for sure! Very sharply struck, to boot. Sure, it looks cleaned, but has since retoned a bit on the rims. An EXCELLENT coin for xf money ($85 or so?).
