Technical v. market grading?

fcloudfcloud Posts: 12,133 ✭✭✭✭
David,

Are PCGS coins graded technically or for marketability? Is one way better than the other, if so, why? And, has the market grading become more acceptable than techincal, or are they basically the same thing? I would appreciate your thoughs on the two.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony...I've never been a fan of the technical vs. market grading concept. I suppose the proponents are saying that technical grading is stricter. Or maybe that market grading is an excuse for overgrading. I'm not sure...and I never really saw the point. PCGS has followed the money on the table since Day One, i.e. We graded according to how people who laid down the hard cash bought. The market is the ultimate arbitrator...everything else is just opinion. So I guess you could say PCGS uses market grading, but not in the sense that most people mean.
