Congratulations to Davalillo

For knocking me out of the second spot on the Kellogg's all time finest. He said that he was going to do it, and by God, he did! LOL

    Davalillo:

A truly valiant effort! Of your extensive run of sets -- this is by far my favorite VINTAGE set.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

It's definitely an outstanding job by Davalillo, and he did it in a relatively short period of time. Well done! image

    Short time, but big $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Congrats Jim. I can only admire your collection and dream about the day when I'm rich too.

I am not sure I understand what the big deal is.....

Come home from work and return the messages left by dealers who have located over priced 70 Kelloggs cards
on your behalf and write the check???

All of this in an effort to prove to you guys how quickly and easily he could build a high grade set.

    How is this an achievment?

    (Jims overall collection is impressive)

    Loves me some shiny!

Because we had to sweat to collect ours for the square root of wholesale! Over long periods of time as well.

As far as collecting and building this set.....I don't believe it's much of an achievement at all.

However, the life achievement and success that allows him to build all of these sets.....that's what I find to be impressive.

Currently collecting.....your guess is as good as mine.

Caramels -- A George Strait fan? I didn't know it was even legal to play country music in California, but I've heard Bakersfield does have an exemption from this law.

Here, here! Very well said Playball!

The achievement for Davalillo is that he DID BUILD the set, whether he could afford it or not is irrelevant. Its an impressive set that is highly collected by dozens of people. He help put that set on the map with his "vintage, not vintage" discussion w/ ZARDOZ, GEMMINTMAN and others. I for one am impressed with what he did in such a short time...jay
  • Congrats to Davilillo on building a fine set but im i mistaken or did Dave Jacobs begin building this set after Davilillo and is not too far behind at an impressive 9.31 GPA

Thanks to all for the nice thoughts and for the not so nice ones thats okay too--I did this for the fun of it as Paul and Gemmint know. They are good sports at the end of the day. Of course I could not have built the psa 9 set in 2 weeks without Zardoz's help. For those of you that think I wrote big checks for any of the 9s, I hate to disappoint you but not true. I did not pay much for any of the 9s.

Now the 10s are a different story--most of them I won fair and square in auctions against gemmint, king kellogg or Dave Jacobs on Ebay.

I have had the good fortune to meet or receive personal messages from many who commented here--you are a great bunch of guys.

Dave Jacobs may well overtake me--I am turning my attention to my vintage sets.

    Thanks again to all.

    Jim
