1957 Mike Garcia PSA 8

$1451! Well, I guess Beckett Vintage Magazine was right in declaring 1957 Topps BB #300 Mike Garcia the toughest common in that set. This one is poorly centered to boot! Kind of sad that my sharp 1957 #1 Ted Williams PSA 8 went for $200 less on EBAY the same day.image

  • If PSA suddenly started calling all "7's" "8's" would we have no more "7's" or have no more legitimate "8's"
  • Out of curiosity what uis the POP on this card? 1 of 1 ? Not knowing how tough the centering is on this card my guess would someone bought the holder and not the card....

It's pretty close, but the upper left hand cornering should have sunk this one down to a very nice PSA 7.

Also remember: Take away bidder #1 or bidder #2 on this auction, and the card sells for $675 -- less than half the final hammer price.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Okay ,True the the #1 and #2 bidders drove the card up... But wow even $675 for a 10 pop common (And a low end 8 at that). Still seems pretty stiff for this card....Jeff

I like how the starting bid was $32.99. I mean, where did they come up with that number? Just a random choice? Did they start it to just cover what they paid for it plus grading costs? If they started it at under $10, they would have profited an extra 50 cents or so.

Just when I think it might be time to start looking again at starting a 57T set, this one comes along. A pop 10 PSA 8 that goes for a lot more than even some PSA 10s went for recently.

This is just another reason why I am considering breaking up my 57's. One, I can't afford to pay that amount of money for a common 8. Two, hopefully I can get lucky on one or two of mine. Maybe not $1000 lucky but $100 sure would be nice. Plus I'm buying a house and since the set looks more unreachable for me each day the extra dough would also be nice.
