What's the coolest coin you bought at Long Beach?
Mine was in the Heritage auction. A J227 pattern Indian cent in MS, not (as stated on the holder) PROOF. I don't remember ever seeing one of these in MS, but I could be wrong. (Tim?) J228's are usually MS - I've never seen a proof - but I thought that all J227's were proof. Any thoughts from the pattern specialists out there?

As you know, I'm so focused on 1856/1858 cents, I don't know about much else in the pattern world.
For the rest of you, Rick offered me a 1864 pattern for "12". I thought $1200 sounded reasonable so tried to combine it with the J299 I bought from him. I offered $3200 and was embarassed to find out the 1864 was 12K!!
It's no wonder I have no clue as to what's so great about the Morgan - sorry Rick.....
It's an ANACS-60, but it looks tremendously better. This is a date that seldom comes very well struck, and is renown for having indifferent lustre and tired/scruffy eye appeal. But this coin looks more like a GSA Carson City coin. The coin is flashy white and very lustrous, with a "fresh", no-doubt-about-it-UNC overall look. And it has one of the most remarkably strong strikes I've ever seen on any '86-O. ANACS may have actually undergraded this one, and I'm thrilled to finally have it.
