I just noticed the mint sell 2003 gold proof eagles.
I almost got the $10 and then looked at last issues on ebay and they sell for less ?

Im a novice and wonder if you guys think those will make good investment.

  • That's a tough call. "investment" The mint gets a premium over gold prices of course. Usually you can get the gold, as you found, on Ebay or here for less. There are times when the mint produces a rarity such as the MS coins minted with unfinished proof dies. These would have been a good investment had you known before they came out. image
Generally I purchase my gold coins from the aftermarket rather than straight from the mint. If you are interested in slabbed gold coins the of course you are far better off purchasing aftermarket as you can usually pick it up for spot gold prices with no premium for the slab. This is not the case with the proof gold coins though. There is a slight premium on the slabs there.

I have a few gold coins for sale to board members if your intrested. CLICK HERE

    I hope i've helped.

  • consider gold a store of value rather than an investment

over the long term gold doesn't seem to diminish in value. your property value might drop or your 401K might go into the crapper but gold isn't very likely to lose its value

    just my opinion of course

If you are more interested in something collectable that might provide better appreciation then take a look at the modern gold commems. in recent years the mintages have shrunk and valuations have risen considerably.

    here's one of my favs
