Graded $20 gold double eagle from 1861

This 1861 double eagle was made in Philadelphia in 1861, when the War between the States began. Makes you wonder what historical figure might have handeled this coin at one time or another?
NGC has graded it as XF45, which seems a bit low sided as its a really pretty coin...some minor wear and small scratches typical of a coin this old.
