Well. darn it, I fouled up this thread by not creating a poll, but it looks like this has turned into a Seated half dollar thread anyway! Post a Seated half pic or your thoughts on Seated half dollars.

This thread can still be put to good use. I'm starting to like Seated Liberty halves.

Here's a interesting Seated half on Ebay.

  • By the good grace of a board member, I have two nice, happy, circulated seated halves to show to the kids and help educate them about coins (and have fun, too!)

I think they're pretty cool. I couldn't grade one because I've only handled two, but they are really neat.

Dang it! Don't show coins like that. I vowed never to like Seated coinage. I'm weakening...

  • Whoof! That 1880 is stunning.

Does the auction list the grade and any variety info on it?

I really like the reverse and some of the elements of the obverse design but there seems to be somethings that don't strike me as anatomically correct or natural with respect to Ms. Liberty or how she is poised.

    Those are some beautiful coins.

Also a wonderful coin. I know the New Orleans Mint was taken by the Confederacy during the Civil War. How many 1861 Seated Halfs were struck before the switch to the Confederate Half Dollar took place?

I love them and I hope to have more of them some day. An arrows and rays variety, for sure, and maybe even a proof.
And a Carson City issue would be tops. Did you see the 1881 that I posted here? It's reddish-gray and struck with, I believe, proof dies.

  • Lots of great varieties on these. Rays, no rays, arrows, no arrows, no motto, different weights.

Very nice! One could spend lots of time looking at these.
  • P.S. clw54, Thanks for turning it into a cool thread, and thanks to lclugza and the rest for the great content.

DMWJR, that 1852o is very nice. That's one date you don't usually find unrubbed and uncleaned and with mint luster on it. Consider yourself most fortunate.

After running into the Evergreen halves 1-1/2 years ago, I seem to have wandered away from quarters to halves. Now have over 2 dozen high grade UNC/PF seated halves....and I want more!

Roadrunner, acutally it is an 1852p. I put an "o" on the file so I would know it was the obverse. Sorry. Still it is a nice half. I can't quite capture the luster here. It shimmers. Here is the reverse:

    Doug,

Did I tell you that I want that 52-O of yours?

BTW, did anyone notice a gorgeous and minimally chopped 55-S? It was certainly a high-end ChAU specimen, and it appeared in a small NYC auction. I was the underbidder, and lost out to a local dealer who's also a Seated specialist.

I wish this beauty were mine. I believe this is just one of around 8 thousand perfect coins owned by Adrian (Anaconda).
